It's real to the extent that Ziwe does these interviews similar to Zach Galifianakis' "Between Two Ferns" or the interviews that Stephen Colbert would do on "The Colbert Report". There's a lot of improv and sometimes the interviewees are in on the joke but other times, it's difficult to know whether the joke is on them:

Part of Santos' MO is that he seems to believe that he's smarter than everyone in the room and that he can get away with anything. He had to have known Ziwe's comedy and he undoubtedly thought he could just play along.

Rep Santos was expelled on Dec 1.

Even after he was expelled, he has continued collecting money from donors - most of whom are recurring donors with occupations of "retired" or who seem to have Chinese surnames.

He's continued spending money out of his campaign fund, including spending over $1,300 at the exclusive Capitol Hill Club after he was expelled.
