The only funny part with Bill Shatner was that McFarlane will come out in 2015 and join the gay men's chorus. IMO, he was one of those coded gays who is at the very least, bisexual.

I laughed at that joke like the one about "could this year's Oscars get any gayer than this...". Musical theatre is the gayest form of acting IMHO.
 
He is funny,too.. Family Guy can be brilliant, and Ted was uproariously funny. This however, was as unwise as awards show host as Ricky Gervais was. Humor NOT meant for everyone, and he forced a lot of the bits from what I read and heard( worked tonight so couldn't see it live, probably fortunately). Ironic thing is he loves the movies and musicals of old time Hollywood but he's just too much of an iconoclast to be a comfortably mainstream entertainer. He's a huge supporter of gay rights, an atheist, very much a liberal, certainly to the left of me but if we were going to have a party, well then I'd love him to be there.... not so much an awards show host, where they may like the playfullness of a Billly Crystal type host but they don't like irreverence that bites... or in this case, a host who bites AND sucks!

The Oscars are terrible because THEY'RE THE OSCARS. Not because of Seth. Sure, he started with a whimper but the rest of the show was pretty amusing. Dude can sing, dance, be silly, and be serious. And best of all, he's not Billy Crystal.

I didn't watch...because they are the Oscars...but I saw him in passing and I think he is/was charming and funny...

...and I seriously dislike Billy Crystal.

BTW...did Shirley Bassey perform at all?
