I believe that we are experiencing the end results of Roe vs. Wade; we have been killing off the work forces...

Killing off the work forces? You do realize, I hope, that birth control could have prevented those pregnancies from ever happening, and that birth control prevents far more births than abortion does.

How about denying women access to birth control so we could really expand the work force?

The U.S. population growth rate is slowing.

Slowing not shrinking. :=D:

If, as was claimed, abortion is taking such a toll against our numbers the number would be shrinking. No new births minus old age deaths. It's not.

People don't THINK.

As long as you can continue to consume and put gas in your SUV, all is good. Yes, we are overpopulating the world. However, we DO have the means to solve a lot of societies problems. Unfortunately this would mean working together and abolishing WAR. Well, that'll never happen.

So nature itself will cut us down. It's only a matter of time.

One of my own theories is that being Gay is just another natural mechanism to cope with over-breeding. It'll either become more and more common to be born Gay, or some super virus will take out a big chunk of us.

Well, that's MY theory, anyway.

To echo another poster, over utilization of resources is a far greater problem than over population. The US uses much more resource than nations with greater populations.

That said, not enough people have access to reproductive control in their own lives.

I believe homosexuality is a natural response to male over-population.

I'm doing my part!

Yes, absolutely. No one needs more than 2 or 3. I could understand why some people would feel that it's wrong to enforce such a thing, but I'd have no problem making it an enforceable law.

Ok, so if you're for setting limits on the number of children someone can have, what kind of punishment, penalty, and/or retribution would you impose on someone who doesn't comply with such a mandate?

  • Forced sterilization
  • A fine of some kind
  • Forced abortions
  • Imposing a tax on the number of children beyond a certain number

Any of the latter 3. And if the women keep trying to have more and keep getting caught, just remove the whole uterus during the 2nd or 3rd forced abortion.

To address your Eugenics issue, any law would of course have to be UNIVERSALLY applicable, making no allowances for race, class, geographical area, or physical/mental condition of the parents.

I believe that we are experiencing the end results of Roe vs. Wade; we have been killing off the work forces, and the median age in the USA is getting older, and it is costing more $ to keep the older ones employed. The Youths are the biggest economic factors, they are able to maintain the Factory Quotas up, where the older ones are not able to keep up with the quotas. I agree with your sister, and I am Pro-life.

Huh? This makes absolutely no sense.

Killing off the work force? The drop in birth rate is much more closely tied to an increase in the use of safe sex, birth control, better sex education, and a delay in the median age of marriage until later in life.

Factory quotas? Most Americans no longer work in factories.

I agree completely.
And if we were to cap the number of children as they do in countries such as China, we would see the continued rise of sex-selective abortions.

I think the differences between US society and China's, combined with making the max # of kids more than just 1 would prevent the US from seeing such a sharp trend of sex-selective abortions.

No gay person talking about laws limiting the number of kids you can have should ever complain about laws banning gay marriage. If you can interfere with child bearing you can certainly interfere with marriage.

So look in the mirror and see thy enemy.

Fifty years ago when I was married to my wife, now over twenty-six years ago, we had three children. We had wanted six children. It is a personal matter, informed by one's own conscience.

I said, NO.

So, what are we to do about overpopulation and the limiting of resources for those who say no? Wait for a plague or natural disaster to cut down the population? Start offing people with war and violence? With more people shooting out babies and the increase in medicine, it gonna be a problem even if births rates will decrease over time.

And how in the world does limiting births relate to gay marriage? More births=more demand of food, space, money, and resources. Gay marriage=two people getting married and receiving federal benefits.

We do nothing, and let the cards fall where they will. Honestly, you think the human race is going to do something right?

Something has to happen.

Either we take control or we let God/Mother Nature/Zeus/The Enchanted Granola Bar have his/her/its way with us.

The Enchanted Granola Bar says many, things are going to happen and the chances that the human race is going to enjoy them are slim to none.

It's obvious that at some point, with a growing populations (despite slowing growth rates) some coercive population control methods are bound to be taken. Governments are not likely to simply let nature take its course, as doing so would take a lot of governments down in the process.

It's just a question of when the problem becomes severe enough. A combination carrot/stick approach may become necessary to curb unsustainable population growth in certain areas.

But this cannot simply be something that is imposed on poor communities alone. As has been stated, rich countries overconsume relative to their population sizes.

And keeping poor populations growing just to use them as cheap labor and not a good long-term strategy, as advances in robotics and cybernetics may eliminate the need for so much cheap, less-skilled labor.

Either we take control or we let God/Mother Nature/Zeus/The Enchanted Granola Bar have his/her/its way with us.

How would you feel about rationing gas, electricity and food for high-utilization nations like the US?

Those are either basic needs or basic luxuries. We need those to survive and maintain a healthy life.

People do not need to have 4, 5, 6+ children. They can substain and live a well-balanced life without an army-sized family.
