Surely there are drugs / medical procedures that can help now. The T shirt would probably get him killed and someone locked up for life for doing it. Chances are the childeren couldn't read any way. We live in a society where it is dangerous to be a Paediatric doctor, they get attacked because some people are so stupid as to believe they are Paedophiles.

It would be kinder to lock him up and try to treat him.

It seems to me that this guy has some sort of mental issue. Obviously, he's not going to stop with or without wearing this shirt. Perhaps he should be put in prison or a facility where he could be treated.

Prison does not correct this kind of problem, it only separates it from the rest of society. A 5-year sentence, even 5 years of treatment, has little or no bearing on behavior in year 6, 7, 8 and on. Sexual urges are potent motivators, making repeat offenses all but inevitable unless some kind of ongoing LIFELONG treatment/therapy is applied.

Not much, only differs because I believe more people will actually become aware of him if they see the shirt and I believe it's actually more effective than an online database. Not too many people check these databases and if they do, they only search for pedophiles in their areas or zip codes.

Pedophiles certainly don't stay in their own zip codes, so those outside the pervert's zip codes aren't aware of him. This t-shirt would let everyone know who he is.

I'm starting to strongly favor this, but at the same time this is the same thing the Nazi's did with Jews--this public marking of a person.

As I have said before, the general public are too stupid to be trusted to know who are sex offenders. All it will lead to is vigilantism and driving known offenders underground and away from the controls of the police and child protection teams.

that's what this guy's problem is. He's been doing this since 1976. He was on medication and went off the meds and started exposing himself again.

Until they come up with stricter criteria concerning who is and who is not a sex offender as well as how these people are to be handled when released into the general public, I will be against the idea of people having to register as one. It's far too dangerous.

This is just a stupid idea, I mean how they're going to enforce him wearing it, or what's to stop the guy from wearing another shirt or jacket over the sex ofender shirt. Like others have said already, this is just going to start a fasion trend with people wearing 'I'm a sex offender' t-shirts.

I hope there are some more less vague criteria for getting that sentence. Technically, if you're 18 and you have sex with your otherwise consenting 16-year-old girlfriend (which was very common in my high school), you're a sex offender if you're caught. Someone like that certainly doesn't deserve such a severe punishment. Not all "sexual offenses" are cases involving rapists and child molesters. Some people make a mistake like that and do their time and are no threat to anyone anymore. Do they really not deserve a second chance? Things like this really should be decided upon based on the severity of the crime and the liklihood that the offender will do it again.

nope, it appeared from the ballet that it WAS that vague. the example you mentioned is ONE of the reasons i voted no on it. But i was vastly outnumbered by "yes" votes on it.
