its ubiquitous, but im not getting tired of michael. my first teenage crush was a michael. and its an angels name.

i also like chris, although i dont like the full versions (christian, christopher). i knew my share of very attractive chrisses.

brad, because of brad pitt, obviously. i think when the dust settles, he might stand as the most iconic male beauty of our time. ive seen that sometimes in fiction, naming a character "brad" has become a shorthand for establishing him as "very handsom in that all-american way".

wolfram. kind of a ridiculous name, but it has "wolf" in it, and its also the name of a metal. how manly is that?
 
In college knew guy by the of Nick Zackoff. You did mess with Nick he was 210lb football player. But what name.

The thing about names in our modern, crazy world is that names that sound hopelessly old-fashioned and musty will in time come to seem fresh and new. I know a couple who named their young--now 6 and 8--daughters Iris and Maud, which sound like Edwardian spinster names to me but which obviously sound charming to this couple. I heard an interview recently with Lollie Groth, the writer wife of writer Michael Chabon. She said the names of their children are out of a "Jewish old people's home": Sophie, Zeke, Abe and Ida.

As others have pointed out, so much of our reaction to a name comes from associations. I used to always associate "Ben" with Benjamin Franklin (not hot) and then I met an extraordinarily handsome and magnetic guy named Ben and suddenly the name was hot. Likewise "Greg": until high school the only "Greg" I knew was a totally obnoxious and annoying right-wing zealot that we all shunned. Come high school my best friend proves to be a handsome heart-throb and total star named Greg, so the name went from bad to great overnight.

I used to hate the name "Patrick". Then I discovered Sean Cody's Patrick, and the name is now saturated in sex for me.

Just met a very hot Frenchman named Guy, so Guy is sounding good to my ear these days, in both its French and English pronunciations. The Italian version--"Guido"--not so much.

Agreed. What passes for sexy here at JUB is highly questionable in the first place. Not to mention in the real, 3D, world.

I've never once thought a name was sexy or unsexy in of itself. But I liken it to those guys that flash & send asshole & dick pics over the net and nothing else. I'm like, "gee thanks for sharing.... if I was into dating just a dick or just an asshole, I'd stick with one of my exs". :badgrin:
 
Speaking of porn star names, I have a good friend who briefly did porn. He met his partner during that period, using his porn name. The partner--they've been together for five years--refuses to call him by his real first name, and will only use his porn first name, and even introduces him to his friends and family by that name. So my friend now has two first names.

I like a old-fashioned names too. There’s this girl with Louise Brooks hair who draws whimsical pictures in chalk on the floor in front of the entrance of a cupcake store for the store owner. Her name is Edith. I find it charming and fitting that the artist shares a name with an Academy Award-winning costume designer and the eccentrics of Grey Gardens.

Hazel is a great name. To me it has an added cuteness because it’s the name of the main rabbit in Watership Down (not that Watership Down is a cute story).

BTW, I’ve always loved the name Travis. One of my favorite porn stars is named Travis.

Zane. When I see the name, I think of Zane, the female erotica author, first, then Zane Grey, the male Westerns author.
