  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Shame on you Sam Adams

I just wish people would be open about the BS. I mean, if President Clinton went on tv and said "Yup, I got head in the oval office" good for him. He deserves a little relief. G-d knows Hillary wasn't doing it.
How do you know that? This is a little off-topic but... I have a theory that Bill and Hillary have never stopped having sex. I admit my theory is based on no particular evidence. But strange things happen in a marriage...

<snip>

And, looseliam, if "getting the job done" is all that matters with politicians, then (up to a certain point in time) Stalin, Hitler, and Mussolini get top marks.

ANd those three were great leaders. A little fucked in the head, but great leaders nonetheless.

I was being a bit facetious. I can see Hillary yelling at Bill "get the strap-on."

^Joshua_me, it's not about what we here on JUB think. Judgmental or not.

It's about the voters in Portland. And even those of us who were big supporters are disillusioned

What ?? The general public doesn't think like the average JUBber ?? I'm shocked. *Shocked* I say ! ;)

Seriously, though... I guess I don't fully understand the basis for the disillusionment. Yes, he messed up and did something very stupid, but no great crime was committed, at least IMO.

That's one of the things I can't stand about politics in general. Politicians present themselves as somehow greater than human, and lots of people somehow believe that... Then, when it turns out -surprise- they're just like you and me, people can't wait to light the torches and hold the pitchforks over their heads.

I just don't get it.

Sam lied repeatedly.

To the voters before the election when Ball first suggested that Sam was involved with an underage intern from Salem. He turned the tables on Ball, too, calling him out on his "sleaze" and dirty tactics. Bob Ball by the way is a huge philanthropist and donates heavily to gay causes locally, and is himself gay. He had been exploring the option of entering city politics himself. Sam's actions have driven him from the political stage here in town.

Sam continued lying as reporters from different papers confronted him with questions their investigating had brought up. He also (it appears) may have offered other local politicians favors and job opportunities in exchange for their support and lies.

He was still lying on the day he was in a room with reporters from Willamette Week, until they presented him with testimony that proved he wasn't being truthful. Then he finally confessed.

Sure, the "crime" may not even be a crime (or it may because of our ridiculous age of consent laws), the voters did, and do, feel disillusioned by just another example of a politician lying and deceiving to gain or hold an office.

Sam's previous behavior had led the public to expect better of him.

For those interested the official recall petition started to day.
