Does anyone watch Shameless on C4 and know if and whe it's coming back for a next series? I love it, it's one of my favourite shows. Clip from when Frank accuses Ian of being gay lol:

Re: Shameless

This is one of the reasons I'm so pissed with BBC America.

They showed the first series two years ago, and then never showed any more.

They do this all the time here, and I just don't get it.

I really loved the first series.

(Just so you know: BBC America shows series from ITV and C4.)

I watched most of the first series on BBC America (but missed the first couple of episodes) and got so hooked that I've bought all the series to date on DVD. Fortunately the last series was released on DVD right after it finished airing on TV. Note that with the exchange rate, the last couple of series have been expensive to buy in the US. I really wish that Netflix would rent non-Region 1 DVDs.

And over the last few months, I've gotten hooked on Skins, which is also being shown on BBC America. Why is it that the Brits seem to have so much better programs?

Heh...To the guy with the thread debating Netflix vs. Blockbuster: I recently rented Shameless via Blockbuster.

Because it's not American. You've gotten too used to the American stuff and want something different. Also, keep in mind that we're seeing the best of the British system, and not everything that they have to offer....

Shameless Series 1 is available on Region 1 DVD but not the subsequent series. I'd be very interested to hear if you're able to get any of the second through fifth series through Blockbuster.

Re: Shameless

Should start in January.

Thank you!

And just to let the people know who only saw up to series 3 that the show takes a different turn in series 4 and 5. It's still a good show but has completely different dynamics than in series 1 and 2

British TV Show Shameless

Hi there.

I have been a fan of the tv show shameless for a while now.
I watched it with out any subtitles and it took a while to undestand what they were saying half the time.

Anyway, I have a question that hopefully british people can answer (or maybe someone with more knowlegde about accents than myself).

I think the character Ivonne (the shopkeeper) speaks with an accent that is somewhat different from the rest of the manc cast. Where is her accent from? Or am I just getting confused?

Re: British TV Show Shameless

I think Middle eastern accent. She has several times threatened her daughter to be sent in Pakistan with the rest of her siblings

Re: British TV Show Shameless

No its an Northern English accent, look her up on IMDB it may say where exactly in England she's from.

Re: British TV Show Shameless

Its a shame that Americans have been force-fed nothing but cockney accents and queen's English (ie. Hugh Grant) for the last 40 years on their TV screens. If they heard proper regional accents, they might not need subtitles to watch Shameless!

Re: British TV Show Shameless

Could you picture the problems they'd have watching old episodes of Brookside lol.

No, Yvonne is English. After she married Kash Karib, she converted to Islam.

I love the show. I saw parts of the first series on BBC America, got hooked and have since bought every season from Amazon.co.uk (although the exchange rates made some of them expensive). I'm now waiting for May, when I can order the seventh series.

And it's not just the accents that are hard to understand. I also have problems with the slang and the cultural references. (The jokes at the beginning of Graham Norton's show are often inexplicable.)

Re: British TV Show Shameless

Seventh series so far is rubbhish its lost too many good characters I think its time to lay it to rest.

Re: British TV Show Shameless

That's too bad. Still, I'll probably buy the DVDs anyhow.

By the way, they've been talking about an American adaption for a while. Initially, it was going to be on NBC, but now the premium cable channel Showtime has it. They've already filmed a pilot episode, with William H. Macy (Dr. David Morgenstern from ER) as Frank Gallagher and Allison Janney (CJ Cregg from The West Wing) as Sheila.

Based on previous American adaptions like Coupling and Men Behaving Badly, it's probably going to be awful, but I'm a perpetual optimist. At least since Showtime is a cable channel, they'll be able to be freer with the language, sex and drug and alcohol use than NBC would have been.

Although it will never be as good as the early seasons written by its creator, Paul Abbott, Shameless remains one of the best UK produced TV dramas around. Yes, some great characters have gone and sometimes it can seem like the explicit sex and drug scenes are only there for controversy's sake. But other strong characters have emerged (Karen is particularly good this season) and it remains the gayest show on TV! And the portrayal of strong, working class, non-effete gay men on prime time TV can only be a good thing. I hope this show runs and runs. The only character it cannot afford to lose is Frank Gallagher.

Shameless is just so British I can't see how that could work.

The whole set-up is totally dependent on the uniquely British class , benefits and social work system, the pub, the housing estate, even the drug culture. It would have to be completely rewritten.
