From reading the wikipedia articles, it is clear that the two women are not related. Sylvia, identified as Sylvia Robinson in the wikipedia article about her, was born in Harlem, and worked around the recording industry all her life, from the 1950s until the late 70s and 80s, when she started Sugar Hill records, a big rap label. The article said she had three sons. Nicole Scherzinger was born in Hawaii to multiethnic parents, and moved to the U.S. mainland when she was young.
