literally been in this situation before, from all three perspectives at one point or another. convinced he wrote this song about me

 

Jerry Butler recently passed away. This is one of those songs that makes you say WHOA! when you find out the origin of it. I remember an interview about 25 years ago on All Things Considered or Fresh Air-- one of those PBS shows, where Jerry Butler said it was about him at 16 years of age having an affair with a woman in her 30s (can you say that on Just Us Boys?), after the breakup. He said she just wanted to get on with her life.
