Sharing a jock strap seems like a rather erotic/ fetish sort of thing to do. When I was in an all boys residential school we had a large gymnasium. It occurred to me when reminiscing the other day about how we would go up to a window to get our gym shoes and then be issued a t-shirt, gym shorts and an athletic supporter. We had our own shoes, but the rest was washed (hopefully) and then redistributed. Who knows how many dangling appendages had been housed in these supporters before mine made the scene.

It never occurred to me just how odd it was... or maybe it wasn't? Do you find it strange?

It isn't that odd in my opinion because I think it's very cost effective. Many parents are struggling to pay all the school bills, so this can help to reduce the costs.

They probably figured the only way the gym clothes would get washed is if they did it for you.

Boys are notorious for not being the cleanest of beings - we would wear our gym clothes then toss them all wet and sweaty into our locker until the next class...

I remember our PE teacher yelling "It is a three day weekend - I want EVERYONE to take their clothes home and wash them! ANYONE without washed clothes on Monday will be doing laps!"

I've never set eyes on a jockstrap in real life. Shorts these days come with a built-in pair of mesh underpants, so jockstraps serve no useful purpose anyway. Where would you go to buy one? Sportswear shops don't sell them as far as I can tell, I've looked once or twice out of curiosity. Maybe there's a sort of old curiosity shop down a back alley somewhere that sells jockstraps, collar studs and those elastic armbands that keep your shirt sleeves up.

The gayer underwear brands have them; I own two by Andrew Christian and they're in C-IN2's online catalog. But recently I wanted the basic kind, and some online sporting goods and general retailers didn't carry them. I bought from Walmart.com and am pleased.

Monday is traditionally Jockstrap Night at the Bike Stop in Philadelphia. Gotta have something to wear.

I went public school. For 9th PE they did same thing. And it looked like it had been used before. But I never thought about it until you mentioned it. We had a mesh bag we'd put everything into once a week and they would wash and return it.

We had to wear them in the 6th grade (only in gym class)

We had to wear jock straps for gym from the 7th grade on through high school. We bought and kept our own. I think that I took it home regularly to be washed, but can't remember anymore.
