Sharing Food

When I'm out with friends, we purposely order different items and sample each other's plates.

I wouldn't do it with strangers, but I have no problem sharing with people I know and are not sick or something.

The whole point of eating with other people is so you can taste their food. Unless my companion is eating something unspeakably vile, or eating the same thing as me, I want a taste. I'll also give a taste of mine.

If the companion is scared of germs, I'll use a clean utensil to transfer the food from one plate to another, though. No point upsetting the poor thing. But even if the dining companion is not someone with whom I swap spit regularly, I really don't care about germs.

Phew! If Mr. Well Mannered says it's okay, then it must be so. :-)

I'm up for sharing food w/ most anyone, but I draw the line w/ drinks. If Jas runs out of Coke or something, I'll give him the rest of mine, but I don't want it back after he's had a sip. Yes, I realize it's odd that I'll swallow his cum but am disgusted by the mere possibility of ingesting his saliva. It is what it is.

Sometimes sharing food is just sharing food.

We have other ways of bonding.

Wow...quite a range of opinions on this one! Glad this discussion took off.

So it seems like most people who don't like sharing have hygenic reasons for it, but is there anyone like me who just sometimes orders food that looks so damn good they want to eat it all to themselves? I'm not saying I'm always really greedy, but every now and then, you guys must just wanna say no if someone asks to share your delicious meal!

Yes - eating is so communal to me - it's great - but it does depend on the food - for instance... touch my dessert at your own peril.

And of course, as others have pointed out, there should be designated "shared" foods and your own food... so there's none of that dabbling with dirty forks, spoons,...etc.

I also share with the cats.

No way. I don't share my food. I used to share cigarettes with people and I've obviously kissed people, sucked dick and all that but my food is where I draw the line. My food is sacred. It's mine.

It depends.

I will usually offer someone a bite of my food before they even ask. "This is sooo good! Try some?" I'm even guilty of the boundary-intrusion that some people mention here, in that without thinking I'll often try to feed people myself, either with my own fork or my fingers if it's fingerfood. But.

Do not put your fork in my plate or remove anything from my plate without my say-so. You know--the people who don't even say anything and just reach over and carve out a chunk. No likey. Especially if I haven't even had any yet.

And I have no problems offering people some of my drink if I have a straw or a cup, but NEVER out of a can or bottle. Just the thought of backwash makes me nauseous. Children aren't allowed to drink out of anything I'm drinking because I have a prejudice that they backwash no matter what the receptacle. I'll just get a cup and pour them a little, or let them have the rest.

I don't normally share the food on my own plate but I do normally share one dessert when I go out with friends. It gives me my dose of sweets for my sweettooth without as much guilt for the fat and calories. :)

The main reason why I don't normally share my main food is because most of my other freinds are meat eaters and I don't want to have anything to do with that.

I still feel a little guilty about eating 1/3 of a slice of the cheesecake factory's banana cream cheesecake after seeing how fatening it was....but I will say that is was delicious and the only time that I had a cheesecake that just melted in my mouth.

you gonna eat that?

i love sharing food. if by any chance i could order a huge portion of food. i'd be glad to order a few and share with my friend/friends and expecially family. what is there not to like? its intamacy in the level of friendship/family. just like love. u love as in romance and love as in family and friends. some cultures kisses everyone in the lips (now i sound like an ignorant who thinks he knows but the fact is he's stupid. but i've seen people kiss in the lips) and its perfectly normal. even hiv or dengue fever couldn't infect you through sharing food. so don't worry. order your mac and cheese and dig in ya'll!..|

I do all the time at Ethiopian restaurant and we aren't using any cutlery at all but just by hands.

It depends on who it is...but I can't do it with family...I have no idea why.

My sister used to drive me crazy with "can I get a bite?" or "Can I take a sip?" GAAAHHH! There have been a couple times where I ate food in private because of things like that ~_~

If I am with my partner and I and we often share an appetizer etc.

If it is a group setting with friends - no way. Gross!
