I've been using The Body Shop's Shave Cream for a couple of years. I use it with a brush and single-blade safety razor and my skin stays pretty clear and razor-burn free.

I'm nearly out of shaving cream, but when I stopped by to get some more today I was told that they've changed the formula and it's now strongly scented and irritating.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an unscented (or very minimally scented) shaving cream that's not terribly expensive? I'm used to spending $12 for a tub that lasts several months, but I could spend a little more for something great. My skin isn't very sensitive or oily, but it can get a little dry. I'm also very sensitive and picky about scents. I can't stand shave oils... I like to lather.

Note: I also have a slight allergy to lavender and sage oil is a no-no for epileptics.

Thanks.

Nivea For Men makes a good line of shaving creams and balms. I hate strongly scented products also and I have no problem with these. I don't know if they have the type that you describe that you need a brush for.

I'm currently using Shave the Planet from Lush, but it's expensive and is scented.

I used to buy Aveeno Shave Gel from the drug store and liked it....

CRIPES!!!

WHERE ARE YOU GUYS SHOPPING?!!?!

I've been getting pretty tired of "Williams," Which is all I see in the grocery stores, etc - and I'm strictly a mug-and-brush guy.

Our local soapmaker, Barking Crow, makes a nice round bar that's made to drop in a mug - a few years ago they had a "Bay Rum" bar that was very nice and drove the suitors crazy. Try googling them and see if ye can still order online; I'm just frustrated they don't seem to be selling in bulk at the local organic supermart any more - they had a small wooden guillotine set up so you could cut off your preferred lengths of bar from a big long bar of soap.

My mom got me this great stuff in a tub that she found online> All it says on the tub lid is "Classic Brand Premium Shaving Cream BAY RUM Traditional shaving products.

On the ingredients label on the back it lists lavender near the bottom, and is rather disappointingly mild-smelling (no bay leaf, really) but has a GREAT texture. I had formerly only used bar soaps for shaving, so it's been a treat. She got me three tubs of the stuff. Oh, and no sage.

I swear by Nivea for all my shaving needs. I've been using their products for years.

I use Noxzema. I wash my face with it and then reapply some on the areas I want to shave.

I use the original formula.

The best shaving cream I have yet found is MAC... sure, it's a little expensive, I think $12.50 for the four-ounce tube (though I see from looking up the link that it's only $10 from the online store); and it doesn't really lather much (I'm not a big fan of the lather, myself, it obscures the view and I need to see what I'm doing when I shave for drag)... but it doesn't have any added scent, just the light scent of the ingredients (such as mentholatum, bilberry, and mint... no lavender, I'm also allergic to the stuff), and it gives you the closest shave I've ever experienced, with a lot less bleeding (I have very thin skin on my throat).

I also loved Aveda's Rosemary Mint shave cream, but they stopped making it. I've tried Nivea, and rather liked it, certainly more economical than either MAC or Aveda, but it was smellier and didn't give as close a shave. Kiss My Face taught me that lathering is counterproductive, but I didn't find the products all that great... just very very inexpensive. Noxzema is also a great product, especially if you experience irritation, but I find it doesn't shave very closely... I usually use it as a cooling pack after a close shave.

Of course, most days I don't care about a close shave... for everyday use, I just shave in the shower with hair conditioner... and if I miss a spot, I zap it with my trimmer while I'm brushing my teeth.

Same here. When I first made the switch from shaving creme to Noxzema, the reduction in skin irritation was amazing! It is scented, but the fragrance doesn't linger at all.

There's a Lush store near my house. I might wander over today and see if they have anything unscented.

Thanks for the advised.

This is the best shaving cream ever. It is a little spendy, but a little goes a long way. I've never had a better shave.

Someone gave me a gift basket from Lush. The scent of everything was over powering. I could not use any.

I would suggest trying the cheaper stuff. Right now I have Gillette Utra Moisturizing Gel that I am very happy with. Got it at Wal-Mart.

I like Dermalogica products. I may have to try that.

Simon, try Kiehl's too!

I love their products. Shaving creams, moisturizers, etc.

That is the shaving cream I use. EXCEPT, mine is in a tub and it's 8 ounces AND it's a few dollars more.

The tub lasts me quite a long time... I'm talking like... three or four months. And of all the shaving creams I've tried over the years, this is the one I prefer and I've stuck with. This is my fourth or fifth tub.

Also - no sage oil from what I can see and no lavender.

It is scented though... but on the label it says:

"A Hint of Mint - No Menthol"

I had no idea you were in Portland.

I just moved here.

Anyway, there is a Kiehl's store on 23rd Avenue, between Irving and Johnson.

Thanks. I walk by there all the time.
