She can't sing

^ Agreed but Madonna had to rely heavily on staging, costumes, choreography and being sexual to entertain. She couldn't just stand there and sing and get the same reaction from an audience.

Thank you, someone said it. It's the same with many other entertainers; a Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake cannot receive the same reaction as a Mariah Carey or Maxwell with just their singing. If they are receiving great reactions, it is because of their names, not their talent. There's nothing wrong with entertainers, but their talent and/or skills as singers are lacking which is why they have to resort to entertaining.

Yep. I actually love entertainers who can make up for their shortcomings by having a lot of stage presence and charisma. And of course I love singers who have genuine vocal ability and can sing the heck out of a sing (powerfully and subtly or both). What I can't stand (and some singers get away with it) is when they are neither good entertainers nor can they carry a tune. Whoops. Lol

Hmmm, you would not be referring to a certain female entertainer in her current state, now would you?

Oh I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. Did you think I was talking about the female singer whose last name is the same as a major Texas city? ;)

I was actually thinking of another singer, who released her second Greatest Hits Collection album last year. I'll make it easier, she is not even 30.:D

Oh her. ;) Well, I'm not a huge fan but she puts out catchy songs. To be completely honest, I always thought that Madonna choosing to publicly mentor this singer was really just a marketing ploy (so Madonna could reach the young fans by way of this singer who released her second Greatest Hits collection). Just my opinion, though.

Yeah, that singer. I would not be surprised if that was Madonna's intentions, at the time either. The female singer probably thought it was a true relationship whereas Madonna was thinking about the dollar at the end of the day. Madonna has admitted that she's a good business woman in the past.

Exactly! And I agree that the young singer is naive enough to think it was genuine concern from the diva and gay icon. ;)

The thing with Britney is that she's capable of being a great entertainer but I think she struggles with confidence in live performances (I find that she thinks she's a fraud especially compared to her peers like Aguilera, Lady Gaga). The reviews of her Circus tour both here and abroad all said that they found her deeply removed from the audience. That's sad considering how much her fans love her AND how expensive concert tix are these days. I found that among Britney's peers, Pink, IMO has more of the Madonna stage presence and artistry but Madonna isn't stupid. Britney was definitely the way to go in terms of finding a modern "protege".
