Shot in the Eye

I was at the Eye Clinic in Boston today, and for the 4th time this year I got a sot of Lucentis in the left eyeball. This is to stop macular Degeration and is working very well.

My eye is red, and crusted with dried blood but is doing fine. It still freaks me out everytime I go there,

You know I feel for you regarding the pain and unpleasantness of the eye shot,but it is great that things are going well for you.All the negatives are worth that positive of being able to enjoy and not take for granted all the precious things you see around you,all the little things you cherish.I hope the progress from your treatments continue to go well,and you are long able to continue to enjoy and appreciate all the wonderful sights around you.

Dynk, does it hurt when they give you the shot "in the eye-ball"? I guess that where they give it?

There must be a ton of side-effects possible with having this drug put in the eye and I hope you've had NONE of them.....just positive eye-sight!!!

I just shutter at having an injection in the eye and think you are terribly brave!

....But, I guess most of us would do anything to help preserve our eye-sight now wouldn't we?

We ALL certainly wish you the very best at curtailling AMD and even making your vision better with the new medicine!!

Thanks guys I always have a bad day on the day it is done. I hate it but it has improved my vision over the last year from 20/80 to 20/20 corrected. I will probrably get one more shot in January at the end of the testing period. They figure from then on I will need 2 a year, untill all the fluid behind the eye dissapears.

Do they at least put you into a "twilight sleep" before the procedure.

My mom had macular degeneration, but when she was like twenty she had laser surgery when they were still not sure if they were going to blind you or fix you. From what she has told me that was a true experience with pain. But she if fine now, and only has a larger blind spot than most in her left eye. And now they eye doctor people are checking my eyes because its genetic. So while I don't know first hand what your going through, I might. Good luck with the treatment. Be brave.

They can not put you to sleep. They use a topical anesthetic, then a shot of novacaine and then the Lucentis. There is no pain involved with the injection, I just feel the pressure. It is freaky though.

There is pain involved after the shot for a couple of days, but the second is only if you touch the eye. I know id sounds weird, and it does feel weird when being done. I would not go through it again if it did not work so well. I have lost the gray blind spot in front of my left eye. Yes it is genetic.
