I'm fine with the symbolism of the current flag.
I don't think it needs to also be literal.

Nah, I'm against the idea of giving the black and brown stripe to the pride flag... the six colors had a meaning when the gay artist made the flag and none of the six colors is related to the race.

Also... sexual orientation and gender identify =/= races.

I don't know, but the amount of racism in the gay community is high.

I do see the anger. Just because someone is gay, doesn't mean they are accepting towards gay people of a minority race like black, asian, dark skin ethnic, etc. it also doesn't mean they are accepting towards racial issues.

The evidence is clearly in this thread.

So I don't know if a black and brown section should be put on the LGBT flag for queers of color;

But I do know the racist ignorance in this community, which is thread already shows needs to stop.

The only ignorance in this thread that was pointed out is that people think colors need to be added to the flag based on race when the colors don't have to do with race in the first place. It makes no sense to do that. No one in this thread is being racist or ignorant.

Furthermore some of us are queer people of color. I just don't see the need for it.

there's a need for inclusion and addressing issues of race for LGBTQRTISLSDG$%~ but this would just be cheap lip service, i do think it is symptomatic of the need for a bridge to be built though

I would have no problem with it being another version, but as a replacement I feel it is adding to something that already includes what is added.

As an entire new flag, I think that would be great.

Same here.
Besides, the current colors have nothing to do with race (or even sexuality)...google'ing it, the meanings are:
Red = Life
Orange = Healing
Yellow = Sunlight
Green = Nature
Blue = Harmony/Peace
Purple = Spirit

From my understanding it was never meant to be a gay rights flag. It was meant to be a diversity flag in general. Most people just call it a gay rights flag and now I think that is what it is considered.

I remember when we added the colors for the green, blue and purple people. It was an iconic time in our history.
This is damn funny and pretty much covers the point.

I want a silver-grey stripe to represent us elderfags ... plus a very thin stripe for the skinnies and a big wide one for the fatties.
Thought being British you would have wanted a referendum on Prexit, so you could take back the rainbow from unaccountable Brussels Eurocrats trying to pass regulations about how wide each colour stripe has to be. Pride Exit for Britain! We'll make a success of it!
No, simply no, for all the valid reasons already posted.
Yup
One of the hallmarks of our age is an unceasing literalism. People labor to diminish the uses of imagination, and one chief method is an assault on figurativism. It's so boring.

The rainbow is plainly a figure. It's already a metaphor for inclusiveness.

I don't see much difference between a call for a brown stripe and fundamentalist religion.

No thanks.

Absolutely.

Here is a version I can get behind.

I admit this entire post is over my head.

I admit this entire post is over my head.

there's an emerging (and annoying) mother africa black pride idealogy (that ironically is strongly christian even though that was the religion forced on black americans by their slave owners) and they are hypersensitive about connecting LGBT to race, seeing the black power fist on a rainbow flag would ignite all of their fury. umar johnson is a youtuber who is profiting off this movement by blogging his opinions about everything. he paints himself to be a leader with some kinda degree from somewhere but he talks like a section 8 foodstamps baby mama ghetto projects dropped outta school in 4th grade idiot thug. and he literally has a frederick douglass wig that he's started wearing. he even claims to be a descendant of douglass but nobody believes him.

Thank you.

They've done it in Philly. Philly is so incredibly racist-- especially the gay scene--so I approve.

I have to agree with Karen. So, so many of our people, whatever their colour would find this image too provocative.

I think that is their point.

Yes I want it to be provocative. However, I have never recognized this symbol as a "black power fist", but a "raised fist".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raised_fist

The raised fist, or the clenched fist, is a symbol of solidarity and support.[1] It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance.

I feel it fits nicely.
