Should a Christian "bear arms"?

Jasun, think on this: Mr. "One-Note" gets tuned out really fast. When all you ever bring to discussions like this (and on bisexuals, and others) is abusive arrogant hate, you're Mr. One-Note.

That attitude of yours, if I were sitting on the fence on this issue (the thread), would make me come down on the side of being armed and carrying: if there's that kind of hate out there, I want to be prepared.

Excuse me, but you're going to talk to him about 'Hate'? You have got to be kidding me. Christ, you Christians really don't get it do you? But I guess this makes sense for a person attempting to reconcile forgiveness, love, compassion with using a gun as a means to get people to understand compassion and the sacredness of life.
You are the Christian that gives other Christians a bad name. George Bush is dropping bombs on innocent lives in the name of God. But I suppose somehow in your definition and in your interpretation of the scriptures it must be justified. Because as per you, and as I pointed it out to you in a previous post, guns are there in order to make others see your point of view.

How dare you attempt at calling a person hateful, when there is nothing more hateful than a person who would use a gun in order to make others come around to his way of thinking as per you. You're a hypocrite, you’re a liar, and your God must obviously be a farce if he would subscribe to a way of thinking that only a select few are privileged to that love, compassion, and forgiveness.

Why don't you act like a Christian, practise the doctrine of Jesus and refrain from calling your brother as fool, as per your contradictory God. Unless of course you've removed that section of the bible and by the word of God you have been allowed to insult another.

You know what? Your response had justified Soilwork's attitude towards you, because you've proved him right. And if your God stands by while you can call on another hateful and not cast you into hell as per his words, then that just goes to show the validity in that doctrine. A doctrine created by man under the pseudonym of 'God' in order to practise power politics.

Christians are supposed to walk the higher ground. If Soilwork is that much inferior and hateful than you, it is through love that you’re supposed to make him change his ways if indeed they are faulty. Otherwise everything you say, and everything you stand for is a useless bag of hot air. The real hateful ones it seems to me are the Christians on this thread. And on this board, everytime a Christian says anything it’s nothing more than aggression, but I suppose your religion is used to that.

So you know what? Perhaps it does make sense that Christian can take up arms.

You know what? I want to see how you Christian will counter this. Please do...

"Love for Enemies
'You have said that it was said, 'love your neighbour and hate your enemy'. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain to the righteous and then unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect"

Matthew 5:43.

Come on JackFtwist and Kulindahr call someone else hateful. Please do it in the name of God. Come on, tell me this scripture is misconstrued in the name of Jesus. Come on, tell me that anyone who does not adhere to the law of God is a fool. Do it. Do it in the name of God.

The Bible can be left to much interpretation, it was after all written by mortal man from memory and chronicles or notes what have you. Lets not talk about hyprocrasy when its a sin to be gay or lay with another man as a woman especially when your doing it hehehe

Come on, tell me that anyone who does not adhere to the law of God is a fool. Do it. Do it in the name of God.

Hey dude, you don't have many posts here and this is not a new conversation. Tell you what - for me - you will never once find a post from me stating that to not share the faith that I share "is a fool" or any other such thing, not ever, not remotely. I might suggest you search old threads and do the research before you issue such a challenge. You ar making some very shallow assumptions here.

The most I will say is that I encounter that which is beyond myself and my own existence, that which I feel speaks to a universal, is what I call "God" and I know od through Christ of the Scriptures. That is my way to touch something which is greater than myself. That is what works for me. It is not some universal that I would impose an any other person.

There are people who experience, if I may use the term, "god" in other ways. There are those who experience a transcendence, or a divine force, a tao, a zeitgeist, a revelation from a prophet (Muhammad for example) or a great teacher.the Buddah) or something the is syncretic (Ba'hai) or rooted in earth religions or animism or spirituality or what ever other experience has meaning for them as they look to something that is beyond ourselves, and there are so many forms which I thing reflect the diversity of humanity and human experience and need.

There are those who feel there is no such that is beyond ourselves, that our existence is finite, and that belief in any of the above is not for them.

I respect all. My way is my way and I would say it needs to be your way or anyone else's way. God (as I know God) bless the wiccans and the Shinto and the Sikhs and the non believers and the everyone.

When Christians argue what Christianity says, I will enter in, as that is a dicussion of my own.

When people attack in over the top hate Christianity (as opposed to discussing the sins of the Church, a worth while discussion which I will enter into), when we get these over the top hate attacks against Christianity, Islam (and that's all that we seem to have them on JUB) I will speak out against the injustice of those over-arching hate statements - but if someone were to attack Wicca, Hinduism, earth religion, Native American religion, or any other faith system, or those without faith, I will respond in defense of those as I do respond to the mindless over the top attacks on any people of faith.

Each person has to find - experience - understand in a way that answers their life questions. I will never claim any exclusivity for my faith system. And that has not happened here. Your challenge in your post is based on false assumptions. But I am glad you said something because it is a reminder that is community and we ougfht to respect the religious beliefs, or the non religious beliefs, if all Jubbers ) as good practice for doing that in the world.)

Meh. It's always somoene else who's got the problem.

I'm sure Jack will eventually be blaming the orderlies for shitting in his pants.

My point is this... Christians have created the mess they're in by their bulldozing over anyone who isn't them. Be it Muslims, Gays, Jews, Immigrants, "liberals" or whatever.. there isn't a law they've tried to get jammed through that isn't meant to hurt someone else.

But hey.. I'm the bad guy for pointing it out.

Yes yes.. i know.. not YOUR church where you have gay people all over the place and how you all go sing Kum Ba Ya every time a fairy gets his wings. Sorry, but you KNOW that you're in the minority in the Christian church and telling me to shut up isn't going to change much.

Matthew 5:9:

"Blessed are the peace-makers for they shall be called God's children"

I think this is relevant to the original question and also this thread in general.

The peace maker is occasionally obliged to do more than utter words of reconciliation.

I am sure that Adolph Hitler would not have been impressed with quotations from Holy Scripture, any more than he was impressed by the peaceful attempts of Neville Chamberlain to avoid another world war.

You put my words at the top, but not one item in there has a thing to do with me.

The bible says "thou shalt not kill".. I have never a seen a bible that says "thou shalt not murder" and many would consider stoning someone to death for adultery outright murder of the most vicious kind.

Semantic games don't make religion more valid![-X

It isn't semantic games. It's a matter of reading the original -- which I usually do, unless I'm feeling tired or lazy.

Just for fun, I looked at a few translations. Try the New International Version, the Message, the Amplified Bible, the New Living Testament, the Contemporary English Version, the New Century Version, Young's Literal Translation.... that's enough, I think.

Suicide is kind of frowned on.
And nowhere does it say, "Let yourself be raped, and then offer yourself a second or third time.
Nor does it say, "Let the evil man ravage your family, and dismember them; stand by and do nothing."
Neither does it say, "If an evil man slays your fellows, kneel down and think pleasant thoughts; and when he is done, tell him you love him."

No, you're a "bad guy" for taking out your anger on people who aren't even its targets!
It's like if you hated union workers who vote Republican so you go to a meeting of Democrat union members and spout your anger at them!
