Ok long story. I worked in the I.t Field as a field tech. I resigned early spring. I left without giving a notice. I basically left because the way the department was being ran. There was not much leadership. The left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.

I know any department/company could use help. But this was really bad. The customer's knew this as nothing would ever get done, dates changed, etc etc.

What really upset me the most, is I was never really appreciated by management. I know this is all talk, but alot of our clients like me. I received plenty of emails etc that the clients told me they sent to my bosses, and nothing was ever said.

I always tried to do good and provided great customer service. I always tried to give feedback and ideas but management just didnt care. I can go on and on, but you get the point.

I went through a few bosses (director level). One guy came for a month, and resigned to go back to his old job. His replacement started. I think he was there all of a couple days. I remember the new boss(john) sent out an email to everyone about a job well done someone had did. I remember seeing this email and almost crying. It wasnt just me. Everyone felt the same.

I guess this was the icing on the cake. I resigned that Fri night. Sent out my email, left everything on my desk and disabled my accounts.

Fast forward today....I found out the SR director was fired last week. Finally! It was honestly long overdue. They also lost 5 employers over the months, everyone got up and walked.

I have heard great things about the new director John. havent heard anything about the new SR director yet. Both my old peers and some old clients say John is doing a great job and they say hes awesome to work for/improvement.

I had a buddy go to John and see if he would meet with me. I never really met John, my buddy said he would mention casually he ran into me and that I wanted to meet with him. John said he will meet with me but that he wouldnt beable to rehire me because h.r wouldnt allow it. I guess its only common sense why I would want to see him. I am calling BS on the H.R thing.

Should I give it a shot? If truly he would not rehire me, why still meet and waste his time? My thinking is if he gives me the time, maybe I can sell myself?

My buddy did say he wasnt to happy with the way I left. But my feeling is the guy knows how bad it was and what was needed and still needed to fix it. Its not normal for 6 or 7 people to up and leave. I mean, they even fired the guy! Everyone is saying John is straight forward, fair, etc.

Should I meet with the him???? Is he just being professional or do I really have a shot here? what do you all think?

Many companies have a no rehire policy. The one I work at does. Most companies don't want to go through the expense, time and paperwork of hiring a person that has already proven themselves unreliable.

You're find out what the old saying "don't burn your bridges" means.

Going by what you said I wouldn't rehire you. If read your post correctly, the new Director sends an email congratulating one of the staff on a job well done and because past directors didn't acknowledge your contribution, you resign via email on a Friday night and shut down all your accounts, leaving the company short staffed and on the back foot trying to find a replacement.

Sorry but that's just bullshit, not to mention slightly childish. Instead of talking to the new director about past experiences and no longer being committed to the role, or simply waiting to see what this new person would be like in the roll, you just chucked a tantrum and walked out.

Considering the economy is shit at the moment and only getting worse I honestly don't understand people who throw away a perfectly good job over something so meaningless.

I wouldn't waste your time or the directors time going to the meeting.

I understand it looks bad with me leaving. And I should of given the new guy a chance. But at the same time the morale was so terrible it was affecting me outside of work and changing me. That is why I just upped and left. It wasnt getting any better. Please dont think the "praise" thing was really the reason. I wouldnt care about that alone. But understand there was just no communication on any level and that left everyone with their hands in the air almost every day. The management lacked communication skills. I believe they might of pushed one guy out around Dec, because he resigned and it was rumored they asked him to leave. Then they just fired the other guy last week. Those guys were SR management, then came the director level. In the past year, this guy was going to be my 4th boss. Im counting 4 because another director had taken over for a short period while we had none.

Maybe it was not the most professional thing to do, but I think a reasonable person could understand my point.

I understand about polices, and that might very well be the case. But, I feel it comes down to if I able to do the job, get people up and running, and provide customer service. I think that is what really matters the most. John would need to decide that and if he wants me. I dont believe in polices. There is no such thing. Its all about who you know.

Im not saying if he decided he wanted to, that he could........but I dont understand why he would take the time to meet with me if he already knows hes not hiring me.

All of us have had crappy bosses, some of us for many years. Yes everyone would like to have a job they loved and all of the co-workers and bosses were just great. But it don't often happen thay way. Employers pay you to produce, either a product or service. And while there is some benefit to having happy employees, they didn't hire you to make you happy. Quiting without giving notice is something you just don't do. No matter how bad the job, you still work out a notice.
Your statement " I understand about policies" and then "I don't believe in policies" shows arrogrance and maybe even ignorance. Your employer believes in policies.

You got angry, make a bad decision, now you must pay for it. Hopefully you will lean from it. Also be nice to your fellow employees wheather you like them or not. You very well may be working for one of them one day. Happened to me.

As for the boss agreeing to see you, sounds like he is doing it as a favor to your friend who asked him to see you. Not because of you.

There was a poem in our company's newsletter that held a great truth.

There Is No Indispensable Man
by Saxon N. White Kessinger, Copyright 1959

Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego's in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You're the best qualified in the room,

Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul;

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that's remaining
Is a measure of how you will be missed.

You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop and you'll find that in no time
It looks quite the same as before.

The moral of this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There's no indispensable man.

just from that alone, let it go, man.

What I can say is, that even most companies are a"At will termination" The worse thing a employee can do is quit w/o notice. I have learned that these things can leave a mark on your employment record that is hard to quash, explain, avoid, omit from any resume.

So this may be the the black mark on your record for a long time. I always give a min of 2 weeks notice, the employer can then say "just give us a week, you can go now and so on. But if they choose to do it early I always get something in writting stating the facts, so it won't come back at me.

This will fall on a your hands to repair as best as possible.. you may still try to meet up with the guy in hopes of stating your reasons and hope for the best. What have you got to lose cuz it's either going to be a yes/no

I have managed/supervised hundreds of employees. Interviewed and hired also hundreds.

When someone applied at a company I directed, if he so mush as mentioned he quit a previous employer with little notice, forget "no notice", his resume would fly from my desk to the wastebasket.

My best laugh today was reading your " anyone reasonable" would understand. Reasonable does not even enter the equation here.

Leaving without notice and trying to justify it speaks volumes. You should not try to get your job back as any rational employer would never rehire you. Learn from your immaturity and handle your affairs in a more professional way when you find a job. A lot of things about work suck, learn to deal with it like a man not a child.
