I recently bought a dell inspiron 560. (thirty days ago.....past the 14 days refund policy :grrr:)

It is an absolute clunker. :grrr:

It's really bad at playing streaming video and there is no way it can process live webcam shows.

Would it be better to try and upgrade it or just invest in a new computer? If I do decide to upgrade.....I'm gonna have to pay someone else.

If its better just to buy a new computer.......what computer should I get if I watch ALOT of streaming porn........and sometimes watch webcams shows......I have my heart set on dells...and willing to pay up to a grand.

Streaming videos are dependent on your internet connection. That Dell model "only" has a Dual Core compared to today's CPUs, but even that one's good enough to watch offline movies without lagging.

I have dsl . This computer there's lots and lots of lagging. My old computer I usually click on "512" dsl rate.(at porn sites)......and no problems ever.....(its the computer not the dsl problem).

well DSL is kind of outdated now-adays. Why not get cable. or if you live in major city and want to be ahead of the curve could get fiber-wire, altough its pretty expensive. Also Theres also plenty of sites that will test your current upload speeds and download speeds.

Paws and Zmerc are correct.

A 3.2 GHz dual core Pentium computer with 4 GB RAM should NOT be "an absolute clunker" even with Windows 7. Either you're infected with some kind of malware already or there's something wrong with your network connection.

Scan the hell out of it with the usual anti-malware programs. Then go to SpeedTest.net (as Zmerc suggested) and clock your internet speed. Post back in this thread what kind of numbers you get and we'll go from there.

anybody else got an opinion?

Before you get too far into using it, does this machine come with a backup disk? If so, I'd reformat the hard drive, partition it with a storage volume and re-install the OS and take ALL the software updates and security tweaks. I checked out the link you posted, and that machine is no slouch and that it's specifically listed the graphics options tells me it's got plenty of nut to stream - it should run like a rocket, barring there isn't a problem with the OS.

Ping 75 ms

Download speed 2.61 mbps

Upload speed .64 mbps

Something is DRASTICALLY wrong with your DSL...

Just for comparison...

I uses Verizon MOBILE internet (3G) -- and I'm at a truck stop in the middle of NOWHERE in Eastern Tennessee...

I got...

Ping 149 ms
Download 2.10 mbps
Upload .9 mbps

You SHOULD be WAY FASTER than me...

:(:(:(

p.s. And I just checked -- I can watch streaming porn just fine with my speeds...

I use century link dsl. 660 series. the computer directly connected to dsl box.

Do you filters that plug into all of your telephone outlets between the outlet and devices???

I would try turning your computer OFF -- then RESET your DSL Modem -- turn your computer back on and then do the speed test again (just in case you haven't already tried this )...

Something isn't right -- that is a tried and true modem...

Oh -- also check to make sure when you hooked up your NEW computer -- you got the settings right for your broad band connection...

:):):)

Sorry - I was away.

Your connection is somewhat slow, larryng (even for the USA, which tends to have slower connections than the rest of the world). I think it is just about fast enough to stream a web cam session, however - so long as nothing else is accessing the internet.

Therein perhaps lies the problem. Some program may be accessing the internet in background. Some kinds of malware do this. I presume you ran a malware scan. You're not running torrents, are you?

Check the running applications and see if you can identify anything which might be chewing up internet bandwidth. If so, shut that program down and see if your speed increases.

This has nothing to do with your connection speed, but you are better off (for security reasons) connecting to the dsl modem through a router.

^ No.

It won't affect your connection speed one bit.

It's just to help shield your system from attackers on the internet.

However, if you happen to have been hacked and infected with some malware as a result of less-than-robust security, then I guess you could say there is an indirect connection between using a router and your (perceived) connection speed.

Attackers like to try and turn computers like yours into "zombies" which spend a lot of their processing power and internet bandwidth sending out boatloads of spam emails or participating in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. You would have no idea this was going on (except that perhaps it might slow your computer down dramatically). A router would not get rid of an existing infection on your computer, but it could block the control the attackers have over your system. And it could help protect you from future attacks.

That's why I recommended you scan the hell out of it and install a router to try and help prevent something like this in the future.

Wooohooo.......

I was able to talk to my nephew, who is a computer wiz......and explained to him my problem.

I explained to him that during peak times (from 4 pm-12 am)....I cant do anything....but before or after those times..... everything works fine.

My nephew told me to call my ISP........and the ISP said they were having speed issues in my neck of the woods.....and were working to fix the issue.

It was just a coicidence that the speed issues (which I though were computer issues) coincided with my buying of my brand new computer.

I thought my computer was a clunker and I was ready to go buy a new one yesterday......thank God.......I was too tired yesterday to go buy a new puter....

it was my isp problem the WHOLE TIME.

They fixed the problem today..........EVERYTHING WORKING SMOOTHLY.
