Should I worry about my weight?

You can try there and see where you're at.

What a really usefull app .
@op buddy according to that you are clinicaly obese at 19 you may not be
feeling any serious effects yet , but yes you should ask your dr to refer you
to a dietician who will work with you in getting your weight down .
If you stay at the weight you are now or continue to put weight on the health
risks are very high for Heart problems , Strokes , Ulcers , Diabetes , Breathing
problems to name just a few .
Sorry about being to the point but there is good news as well , Statistics show that you have a very good chance of losing quite a bit of weight because of your
age it will be hard work , and will more than likely mean a major lifestyle change
but think how much better you will be and feel .
I wish you luck in this .

Make friends with fruit and vegetables. Limit processed foods and simple carbs. Eat moderate amounts of complex carbs. Cut back on junk food and soda. Drink plenty of water. Start eating recommended portions of protein.

High fat and high sugar foods should be rare treats not daily occurrences.

It can be done without going hungry.

In addition start some moderate exercise like walking, which can be upped to other activities as you feel more energized.

Adding just 2 lbs a year means a lot of rolling around in 10/15 years. Take it from one who learned the hard way.

How muscular are you? that graph doesn't take into account people that may be stalky and built.

I have some arms and chest... and my stomach isnt even that big.

Also... to be fair.... I just got home from vacation and put on about 10 pounds lol

Unless you're large framed or unless you have bulked up with weight-lifting, you are carrying around quite a bit of weight for your age/height.

Hey again Appleman .
Have just had a really good look at your avatar if that is you then you look
pretty muscular and muscle does weigh more than fat .
As another poster has said the mass-index does not take that into account .
I think you look quite damn hot if truth be told , Metabolism can be a funny
thing yours may just be a little slow .
Keep an eye on your weight for say the next month and see if you have gained .
If so there has been some good advice given , just take everything in moderation.
Keep us posted buddy . ..|

If you gained 10 pounds on vacation, then you know how easy it is to gain weight. Don't let the weight slip up on you. It's so much harder to take off as you get older.

I was at that weight about a year and some change ago and I'm also 5'10". I'd always complained about my weight and how I wasn't happy with it until I had a pretty decent catalyst for change in my life. I'm still no picture of perfection, by any means, but I feel much better about myself.

Last summer, I put myself on a pretty strict diet and exercise plan and i lost about 25 lbs in the matter of about 3 months or so. There's a reason that things like that don't usually stick. If I can recommend anything its to begin changing your routine, but in smaller ways. You don't have to give up everything you enjoy, but you should really look at limiting the things that are bad for you. Find out what kind of exercise you really enjoy. I found that I love swimming and its a great form of exercise. It also became my "gateway" exercise.

I've gotten myself down to 180lbs, which is the lightest I've been in over 6 years. All I can tell you is that I feel great. I have a ton more energy. I stay focused so much more than before and I like the way i look.

If you feel good about yourself then I am quite proud of you. Its never too early to think about your future health too. If you want to make a change, its all up to you to do it, and as always, we're here to support you ^_^

Well I do dance a lot, and it's probably the only reason why I'm not 300 pounds right now =p

You can calculate your body fat percentage using the following calculators. I used the simple tape measure calculator on the far right. This will give you an idea if you need to be concern about your weight.

I know it probably sounds weird, but go clubbing! I used that as a workout for a while. If you make sure you're well hydrated and not drinking a ton of alcohol, then its a great thing. I did it for a few weeks and it worked for me. Unfortunately, I can only do it every so often or it would be my work out of choice!

I wouldn't say worry to the point of paranoia, but your weight, regardless of your current health or age, is something ALL people should keep in check.

On a more realistic note, I would take a guess that you are probably carrying a few extra pounds. It couldn't hurt to lose some weight but do what makes your comfortable with yourself and your body.

Your BMI is high. If all else feels and you want to loose weight here is one way to start.

Whatever you eat be honest with your self and eat teh same food but half as you would normally.

Once your weight moves down try to eat healthier. There is/was a group in the U.S. called tops they used wthis system for extremly obese people and it worked.

Another thing you can do is find a diet with foods you like and stick to it 6 days a week on one day each week at one of the meals treat yourself to somthing you love lets say a nice piece of cake. One of the things that kills diets is the boredom or eating healthy grin

Good luck

To be blunt, be very, very worried. Yor're only 19, and have already hit the obese catagory.

A reasonable weight range at 5'10" is 144-174 (muscle mass makes a difference, so if you're a body builder a little higher is OK).

The bottom line is that being overweight is the #1 risk factor for almost every chronic health problem...diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, etc. Even many cancers have a higher incidence when you are overweight.

Your second problem is your age. Metabolism and activity decline with age, so if you are alreaby obese as a teen, it is likely that your weight problem will continue to worsen.

Now is the time to attack this problem. The prior responses have already given some great tips. Weight control is all about calories in/calories out. Whatever way you can get to the right balance is OK. Statistically, the Weight Watchers program has the best track record. It does a good job teaching portion control.

Again, sorry to be blunt, But I've been in your place. I was heavier than you are at age 19, and now I'm at a healthy weight in my middle age. My friends and relatives my age who let their weight get out of control are now burdened with chronic health problems, and their quality of life sucks.

212 now :]

Only 3 pounds but it's a start. I think I'll update here occasionally.
