Should Jaden Smith get an Oscar nod for The Karate Kid?

Fuck no. You need to see more movies with better actors. Maybe you'd like to give his little love interest with the pigtails best supporting actress?

I doubt The Karate Kid movie would be considered Oscar potential by anyone, and I doubt he'd get a nomination for it.

Callum are you serious about "pity awards?" Kate Winslett is one of the best actresses of her generation, the fact she's been passed over in the past for Oscar worthy roles, doesn't negate her performance in The Reader :p

Jeff Bridges I'll give ya though :p

No no...not what I meant. I meant 'pity awards' as in they're giving out awards to people that should have received them long ago on principle of them being robbed prior.

It was pretty lousy the year they gave the Oscar to Julia Roberts over Ellen Burstyn for Requiem for a Dream.

I think that was the year I lost all faith in The Oscars and stopped watching them.

Agreed.

Yea, I agree. Kate Winslet was fantastic in that, The Reader was great as a movie and as a book. I had read the book before seeing the movie and I sort of preferred the book version, but she was really outstanding in that. If any of you get the chance, check it out.

I think Roberts was equally deserving. She was impressive in Brockovich.

I thought Erin Brockovich was just sort of OK - not bad, but not great. After watching that movie, I was left with the feeling that the tag line could have been: "The story of how Julia Roberts' cleavage fought PG&E and saved all the small townsfolk." It just seemed kind of cheesey to me.

if he does- there might be another O'neal family moment- Tatum winning and Ryan not....

Did you ever see Paper Moon? "I want my twenty dollars!!" Tatum deserved that award. She outshined her father on the screen. Ryan was, of course, Ryan.

Tatum won her Best Supporting Actress award in 1974 (she was 10 years old) and was the youngest to ever win a competitive award. That record still stands 36 years later.
