Ask any Canadian, how much coverage Americans get from their health care coverage outside of prescriptions.

Honestly the first thing I thought when I read your thread title, is how many illegal "Mexicans" should be covered under any new U.S.Health Care plan.

Which is why I answered NO in your poll.

^^^ Well the "45 million uninsured" number thrown around includes illegals of all stripes.

Really?

Got any cites?

I'm thinking about all of the tens of thousands of Americans who've lost their jobs (along with their health care benefits), and wasn't even considering the "illegals of all stripes."

But hey!

There's another group that the Democrats can "pander" too! ..|

So, right now, someone with a green card who is working here legally gets health care from their employer, like any other employee. Is that right? If whatever ends up passing disqualifies them from coverage, that strikes me as unjust.

I don't know the ins and outs, but my feeling is that if they are employed and pay taxes, then yes, they should be included.

Of course, the poll is poorly thought out, as if fails to distinguish between legal and illegal aliens.

I'm an American living overseas and in this country EVERYONE is gauranteed free health care services. I've had 2 tansplant operations here and it didn't cost me a dime and i'm given my meds for free as well, the only draw back is the endless redtape

No.

Simple. Clean. Direct

Ok let me elaborate. If you are here illegally, with no green card or work permit, than no.

If you are going through all the right channels, than yes.

Illegal immigrants, however, account for between 15 and 22 percent of the estimated 47 million U.S. residents without health insurance, according to analyses by the Center for Immigration Studies and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Ya know, BearDaddy, this is one of the reasons why I love you like a fat kid loves cake. :p

Because, despite whatever Obama, and the Democrats "want to do," they're still ignoring the ER's of "Regional Hospitals," and the dynamics of how all of that works and how it's various "County Commissioner's" re-assess tax rates to make up for the "short-falls" that both the State Legislatures/Federal Congress whatevers implement.

Either way, as property owners, we get our faces slammed into the tables, and FUCKED without so much as a "reach around," and we're expected to kow-tow as if we were the cheap date for the prom.

.... is one human life worth more than another?

Interesting concept. I suppose it depends on the circumstances …

The fund to compensate families of those killed on 9/11 paid about $2 million, on average, for each of the 2,280 dead. [Link]

The U.S. military pays usually $2,500 compensation for killing an Iraqi. [Link]

Sure. Cover everyone - give it all away. Absolutely incredible what is happening in the US -- total destruction of the best nation of all time.

I think Emergency Care to anyone is necessary, the whole about helping your fellow human been and all...

but other health services, should be for the American citizens, since those are the ones that are paying for it

Illegal immigrants who show up at hospitals should be treated (if their condition is serious or life threatening), arrested and deported. We can't deny people emergency medical care but at the same time, they're breaking the law, draining our economy and putting a burden on our resources. We can't let them do that or they will suffocate us with our own generosity. Wherever illegals are discovered, they should either be deported or granted citizenship and required to pay taxes like everyone else.

Non-citizens who are here for legitimate reasons and pay taxes should be covered.

Visitors should get treatment in their own country unless it's an emergency.

Grasshopper, if your mother & a stranger were laying unconscious in a burning building and you could only carry one down 10 flights of stairs to safety which life/body would you carry?

too many variables... how fat is the other person.... as much as i would love to save her i dunno if i could carry my mom.. i probably could carry her for a few floors... but in reality no way could i carry her 10 floors... also how old is the other person.. if the fire is strong enough that no firefighters could get to us then how would i know i could escape myself...

wouldn't I have a better chance of making sure all 3 of us survive by staying and drawing attention to our location so that rescue could come... i mean i could break out a window and call for help.. firefighters would either come up a ladder for us or inflate that giant balloon cushion.. in which case i could save both by throwing them out the window.. no need to carry them 10 flights of stairs...

I guess my point is its never as simple as choosing one over another... theres always variables

also... are u saying to me... that if you were in a burning building with 2 strangers... an obviously american one... and an obviously foreign one... that you would save the american over the non american...

what if the american was 80... and the the non american was 12...

do 80 year old americans deserve healthcare when a 12 year old doesn't?

what if it wasn't even an age thing...

what if the amerian you are saving turns out to be an asshole who doens't even thank you for saving him but bitches that u didn't carry him gentley enough

meanwhile the non american would have been full of nothing but praise because chances are they moved to this country with their family to get away from hardships where they are from and you just saved their whole family from having to struggle that much more in a place that isn't welcoming and happy to have them around

way too many variables........

.... is one human life worth more than another?

Depending on your answer to that question, it would be possible to argue that we should auction off the entire country and give the proceeds away.

Speaking of worth or value of life and living life to it's fullest.

A peak into our future state-run universal health care?

.

The Oregon program is in trouble because it was conceived when tax receipts were soaring and the Dems in charge were increasing the budget at three times or more the rate of the economy's growth. Now that reality has intruded, it can't cover everyone for everything, so the focus is on helping the poor and people who can lead beneficial lives (that's not the official spiel, but that's the way it settles out).

Yes, it's triage -- but that's what you do when resources are limited. Oregon deserves solid credit for one thing: the program isn't accumulating unpayable debts for future generations.

Illegal immigrants who show up at hospitals should be treated (if their condition is serious or life threatening), arrested and deported.

Creative -- and an excellent idea!

Either that or invent a new form of legal resident card, the "I got hurt here so I can stay" version.
