  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Should Prince Charles (HRH) be the next king?

Buckingham Palace could actually make money if it was always open to the public to go into. As it is, most people stand outside briefly, take a picture and leave to spend money elsewhere.

What about their privacy.

I'm sure Charles and the Queen would like to go relax and pop on their Royql tv or read a Royal novel without the public in their home.

We need to think of the Royal family here.

2013 R.V.P - Arrival of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles - National Anthem - Brief appearance of Dame Edna Average of Australia.

This is a real treat for Jubbers to watch. :gogirl:

I imagine Stonehenge and the Roman Baths would drop a little bit in the ratings if they were closed for 10 months of the year....

What are Jubbers views on his speeches..?? Aren't they touching to any of you...???

It was mentioned a few times by three posters but most of it was silly tampon jokes with no real explanation as to why he shouldn't be King.

Protocol must take precedence or there is no point to it.
The line of succession must either be adhered to or scrap the whole thing.

Aren't we as a nation worse of without them..???

I enjoy seeing the trappings and ceremonies of the monarchy.
It's probably the last bastion of civility.

^ The majority of his speeches are heart felt.

Okay were you aware that the speech you posted was not actually a real speech but a spoof based on clips woven together. Or did you not notice because the original was as ridiculous.

Why was the original one most ridiculous?

But no I thought it was the real one because it doesn't say it was a spoof.

I honestly can only think of two non-monarchies in Europe that I consider well-governed--Ireland and Germany.

Happy times.

Here is a picture of Charles and Camilla having a husband & wife moment.

Aye but not all of the monarchies are that great - look at Belgium and Spain. Those that do well with a monarchy do well because of the non-involvement in politics, which really is the least we can ask for the UK considering how much money we pay them every year.

In practise, democracies are either parliamentary, with a monarch or president as chief of state and a Prime Minister as the actual chief exective. Or they are presidential system as the US in which the president is elected and is both chief of state and chief executive. The presidential system does not work well. It has prevailed in Latin America and all to often becomes a military dictatorship. In the US it has become a popularity contest in which someone with experience loses to a new comer with no history to explain away. The movie star ability to get elected does not qualify one to do the duties. The system worked better when candidates were chosen by parties behind the scenes in proverbial smoke filled rooms.

The parliamentary system is best because the parties choose actual leaders with experience and ability. The purpose of the monarch or president is to unify the country and serve as figurehead. Monarchs do that job better. In addition to a tourist attraction, the British monarch has a world wide prestige which it would be foolish to abandon. Remember, when the President and First Lady have tea with the queen, it is they who worry if they are holding the tea cup the correct way.

I don't disagree - just its been shown in Germany that having a President and a Chancellor costs a whole lot less. The advantage being it also combats class - in the UK system there is always an inbuilt class system in the country because we support one family to be at the top. Of course you can get to Prime Minister and hold the real power - but we still announce with a royal family that some people are born better than you.

But also don't forget you can have a Semi-presidential system like in France.

I have no problem with this man wearing a crown fit for a king.

The first lady stereotypes the Royals way to much.

Just my tuppence worth, if he outlives Her Majesty.

Then i believe he will ascend to the throne.
He has waited far to long as it is.

I believe he will do so, if only to get his name in the line of reigning Monarchs.

I also am of the opinion that his reign will be short lived. I believe he would abdicate in favour of prince William after a short spot in the hot seat.

Again only my opinion, i believe this would be the correct form of action....

Class systems are a fact of life in most countries, predictably determined by the size of a person's....family's bank account...

I have lived in Germany. and quickly learnt that money is as much a symbol of power, and influence there as it is in any other country including the United States....
