  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Should Prince Charles (HRH) be the next king?

Class systems are a fact of life in most countries, predictably determined by the size of a person's....family's bank account...

I have lived in Germany. and quickly learnt that money is as much a symbol of power, and influence there as it is in any other country including the United States....

Of course, but having a top family we all pay towards living the life of luxury is galling - it extends beyond just the royals though to all the attachments to the family via the old fashioned establishment in the old schools and corridors of Oxbridge. It alone won't get rid of class, but it would be nice.

You can have back Philip as well - I am sure you lot in Greece are calling out for his return :p

Just my tuppence worth, if he outlives Her Majesty.

Then i believe he will ascend to the throne.
He has waited far to long as it is.

I believe he will do so, if only to get his name in the line of reigning Monarchs.

I also am of the opinion that his reign will be short lived. I believe he would abdicate in favour of prince William after a short spot in the hot seat.

Again only my opinion, i believe this would be the correct form of action....

In the United Kingdom parliament is sovereign, and should on the death, or approaching demise of Queen Elizabeth the will of the people support the accession of William, rather than Charles parliament can legislate in favour of William....by amending the succession law...

I appreciate your opinion has an ideological driven agenda;)....which is your democratic right....but I will remind you that the most advanced democracies on this planet are also constitutional monarchies such as The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Canada, Australia, and of course the United Kingdom....

Philip was born in Greece, but spent most of his life living outside Greece...nevertheless, his wartime naval service...his warship was sunk off the Greek island of Crete....and continued interest in matters pertaining to Mount Athos is his recognition that Greece remains part of his life story...

I feel like those democracies grew up in spite of, rather than due to, monarchy.

The real issue right now is we know Prince Charles influences, in secret, the policies of government - that is why I question his continued position in the royal family. If he was silent, like the rest of his family, perhaps - but we know he is not. And it seems he refuses to back down on this position as he views it as his right to interfere with the democratic process.

I concur totally with this post, although i cannot see parliament passing such legislation.

Many British do not even understand that parliament is sovereign.

Which i find to be a sad state of affairs....

I am obviously a fervent supporter of our monarchy and for me any question of abdication is completely unacceptable. You were born to be king so you bloody get on with the job and do it until you die and pass it on. I cannot see the Queen abdicating, I would be furious if she did.

If he does it in secret, how do you know?

In any case, plenty of people influence the government. I'd far rather it was Prince Charles than some city slicker buying access to Number 10. Good luck to him I say.

Barring his death before the Queen... Charles will be the next King whether anyone wants it or not. The whole charade of Royalty has no foundation in a (supposedly) democratic meritocracy.

I want it however this is only if the Queen were no longer the Queen.

I think she's an excellent Queen and she can sit on the throne a while longer.

Even if Charles reign wouldn't last as long as hers due to his age wouldn't made a difference to me because his short time as King would be well appreciated.

Another good one.

This is a documentary with some very good moments with The Prince of Wales.

I have to ask if any Jubbers have ever had the pleasure of meeting him or shaking his hand...???

^ And that means that nobody is entitled to an opinion? Stop baiting people!!

Have you left one about the subject in this thread...???

NO .Two post and nothing about the Royals or HRH himself.

Her fame is hard work. She must be in the public eye at all times and smile at the crowds.
