  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Should Prince Charles (HRH) be the next king?

We didn't even have our own constitution and we sang God Save the Queen every morning in school.

Who needs a constitution - us lot back in the UK certainly don't!

Did you really sing that every day? That seems very odd - I don't think it ever happened in the UK. I spoke to my partner who is the same age as you and it only ever happened at the odd special events like prize giving.

I'm not British nor am I from the Commonwealth so forgive me hopping into this again, but I'm a monarchist, not from emotional attachment to the House of Wettin (soon to be House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderborg-Glucksburg when Her Majesty joins her ancestors in the grave), but because the reserve powers of the British Crown coupled with it's non-involvement in the day to day political life of the country seems more or less to be the governmental system best designed for the health and happiness of the most people.

If I were to change anything about your system of government I would actually weaken parliament a bit and strengthen the Crown. I think the perfect balance as far as the British Constitution goes was during the mid 18th century--George II. Commons, Lords, and the Crown DANCED, dueled, and created prosperity and liberty.

Did you really sing that every day?

In early grade school, yes. Later, we just stood as it was played over the intercom, followed by O Canada.

I don't know if that applied in other schools across the country, but it happened in mine.

Going to school in the late 70's is when god save the queen was discontinued and O Canada became the exclusive song.

The tampon thing, unfortunately, is a quote. Is the butt plug thing a quote as well? If so I'm all for King Charles III ruling under a regency.

So, wait, you still have to sing the national anthem every morning? That is still really weird.

Yes, every morning. They discontinued the God Save the Queen thing at the same time that the Lord's Prayer went out the window, making the public system truly public instead of "stealth protestant."

So if Charles becomes King would they have to change the anthem to god save the King?

By the time Charles inherits the throne, he'll be 90 years old.

William will be 55.

Both Charles and William should abdicate in favor of George.

So if Charles becomes King would they have to change the anthem to god save the King?

No. They will continue singing God Save the Queen through the reigns of King Charles III, King William V, and King George VII. It will be a form of national bullying of the Sovereign. It's a very old tradition, goes back to Alfred the Great.

^ What? I think they should change it to god save the king when he gets the crown.

Max, for our official authority on all things Royal.

Just a wee hint.

They do change the anthem to correspond with the gender of the new monarch.

I just found it hilarious that you were taking in by IamNoah's blatant piss-take....
