This is a poll question.

There are, it seems, lots of JUBbers who are into sports. But many of them prefer to posts their threads on the Hot Topics forum.

What do you think?
 
I think things like the Olympics are big enough to warrant a thread or two in Hot Topics. For most things, however, a separate sports forum is best. I wouldn't want to have to wade through baseball and soccer threads in Hot Topics. I'm glad there's a separate forum for threads like that. :)
 
As you could see, people post threads about Olympics here because it is a hot topic. Besides, having the word "Olympic" in a thread title doesn't have to mean that this thread is about sports. As you could also see, some are about the age of atheletes, and some are about hotties.

For example, your favourite thread The Olympic Torch Shines the Light of Freedom, there an "Olympic", but obviously it's not about sports.

VH. Click on greaves' avatar. Lots of threads there for you to enjoy reading, most of them nothing to do with with China or the Olympics.

Tho' some of them are to do with countries/religions/politicians refusing freedom of speech to minorities. You believe Tibet is part of China. Many people don't.

I voted NO. There is a valid need for Jubbers to discuss sport in a serious manner - rather than have to wade thru pics of 'hot' guys and the usual "Oooh missus, he can handle my balls anytime!" kind of comments.

I think the only reason that there have been so many Olympic threads is merely down to the fact that it is one of those sporting events that touches so many people on such a massive scale that it is deservedly a 'Hot Topic'.

We often have political and religious topics in HT - again because they have a massive international appeal instead of a secular following like most everyday sports, political, and religious topics have.

Just my personal thoughts. :D
 
The Olympics are a hotter topic than some of the drama that gets posted in HT.
 
no. there is enough interest to warrant the forum. as others have mentioned, the olympics are a hot topic and this forum is a big enough sand box that if you are not interested you need not open the thread.

Unfortunately as a mod, I can't put you on ignore - because I might just need to come to your help if someone starts flaming/baiting/insulting you - HOWEVER, I CAN recommend a holiday for you. IMHO, most of the threads posted in Hot Topics COULD and SHOULD be posted in other forums. The description for HT is GENERAL DISCUSSION so basically, anything goes. Considerable thought went into creating the various forums and each appear to be accomplishing the desired effect. Just because I personally do not visit another forum does not mean other members are not enjoying its threads. Variety is what makes JUB as popular as it is. If the only threads allowed in HT were ones bashing or arguing with other members, the appeal would soon vanish.

And while you are bent over, Quasar . . . . . .
 
It's a popularity contest here. People just prefer posting their topics in Hot Topics because they want to get the most hits.

We need a place to post our opinions, and discuss sports in a place where we can be free of naked men and sex talk. It gets me crazy when grown men have the need to bring sex into every conversation. For heavens sake their other things in life, and the sports forum is important to guys like me who want to discuss sports and only sports.
What possible reason would their be to deprive a group, of JUBers the chance to get together and enjoy the topic of sports?
Leave the sports forum alone, or I may just have to scratch your eyes out :wave:

American Football is easy to understand. We took "football", and did everything we could to it so that:

1. it was actually interesting.
2. teams occasionally scored.
3. we could sell more beer and trucks during a televised match.

Not surprisingly, it doesn't look much like the original anymore.
