Should time travel become possible

I had a very interesting conversation with one of my former physics professors about the "faster-than-light" neutrinos. He surmised that, theoretically, they should make time travel possible as, if they truly do move faster than the speed of light, they are almost constantly moving through time. Of course, the technology is MANY MANY years away, if it is ever even made possible (and that's if the particles actually do move faster than light, which is highly debatable).

I'm told by my physicist friends that FTL travel IS time travel, that they're one and the same. I've never quite bought their explanation (possibly because I didn't fully understand it), but that's what they say.

First stop, Jan. 18, 1938, 881 7th Ave., New York City.

I'd keep going back until I run out of disguises.

If time travel were possible, where are the tourists from the future? (this is Steven Hawking, not me!)

All traces of them have been cleaned up by the Time Patrol. We're living in the finished timeline, where they've succeeded in editing all traces of the tourists out. And if tourists visit us again, the TP will step in and clean the timeline again.

The TP tries as many times as it takes to do this, and eventually (even after subjective years sometimes) they get it cleaned up.

Unfortunately they don't care what ELSE they fuck up, which is why we're living in the crappy timeline where George W. Bush was President for 8 years, we spent a fucking TRILLION DOLLARS and 4488 servicepeople's lives on a stupid useless war, and our country is totally fucked up with the aftereffects of a gigantic recession.

I'd rather none of those things had happened and we just had to remember one simple principle: Time Travelers Strictly Cash.

time travel, if real woudl have to be extremely limited as who could do it, cause think about it, if a womans son was killed in a car crash in 1980 and she is still alive, she would go back in time to prevent him from being killed, now the timeline woudl be messed up cause now her son is alive, and her whole life would change.

if i had to ability to do it, i would honestly just go back to 2009 and stop myself from contacting my father, thus never starting a relationship with him.

JohannBessler, your post suggests a point about time travel I've wondered about. Is the past changeable? Maybe once the arrow of time passes through the present, it somehow crystallizes and becomes immutable. In my earlier post, I talked about creating a new religion. Perhaps prophecy is the best we could do.

Would we even be able to experience a past like that without ending up in the madhouse? Life would be more like an echo than a reality.

Funny I was thinking about this the other day. I think the first thing I'd do is go back to my grade 8 year of high school. There was a kid who was openly gay and as a result he was constantly shuned and outcast. I have this haunting image of him standing all alone on the upper balcony of the school block and just looking down at all of us socialising during breaktime out on the field. I always wanted to talk to him and just be a friend (it was right at the time where I first started realising I might be gay) but was too scared of how my regular friends might react that I never did. Nothing might never have come from it but if it meant he had someone to talk to he might not have hung himself later that same year.
