No, we should not have gay divorce.

We should strive to be better than heterosexuals by truly committing to our marriages: no 24-hour no-fault annulments, no quickie divorces. Let's show them how it is really done. Marriage = for life. Period. No exceptions.

Actually that was a shaky legal proposition (or at the very least disconcertingly untested) for a while in Canada in the period between the legalisation of marriages by the courts and the adoption of the federal legislation for marriage equality.

Makes you wonder why the trial lawyers association isn't trying harder to get us marriage rights. Talk about instant cash cow. We tend to trade up a lot. We'd need legal reform so everyone was covered and could pay for it lol

Having said that, I expect that within 25 years of longer gay relationships and gay marriage, we will have a whole system adressing gay divorce as an adjunct to the preexisting divorce laws.

My experience for saying that is that Anglican priests in the US were allowed to divorce under both civil and church law for the first time in 1973 and within 25 years the percentage of divorces was the same as the whole population.
