Let me be clear what I mean by that: dangerous to complex ecosystems?

Of course, the Earth will continue to exist until obliterated by the sun, whether or not there are billions of species alive on it, or none at all. But I don't think anyone here (or anywhere) refers to the dangerous-ness of humans in the sense of threatening Earth's entire obliteration. They are generally referring to the dangerous-ness of humans as threatening the life which is borne upon Earth.

If people are content to make propositions about their values merely by fiat, so be it. But most thinking people expect that a rationale is not too much to ask for. Of course, the stupid sorts of religion often interdict conceptual analysis, and leave its followers with nothing more than proclamations like this. What a way to live.

This was a freak occurrence? No. Of course there are factors involved that are worth talking about. A child did not have to fall into the moat and face being shot at. A gorilla did not have to be murdered. Zoos are not the best way to promote conservation. We humans are gifted with brains, and it's worth using them to create a better world and to evaluate the best way to make people and other animals happy. Accidents are great things in the sense that they provide us with an opportunity to reflect on what went wrong, and then to go about the business of making things better. If we simply threw our hands up in the air and decided accidents were just accidents and oh well too bad, the world would devolve into a soup of failure and chaos.

Can you say why you think it should be? Is human life divine? Is the happiest society one which excludes non-human animals from a theory of justice? Is it enough to justify the proposition that human life is more valuable simply by our feelings and instincts?
 
the people here who are cheering for the murder of a wild animal, one that has already been pushed to near extinction by humans, ought to feel somewhat responsible for the callous attitude they have towards this planet and its inhabitants.
 
Well, thankfully, common sense prevailed and the parents will not be charged. Now, let's see if the zoo is sued, as rightly so.

Why do you assume this just because people don't post about it? I mean I know this rings true and people do hop on a topic just because it is getting a lot of buzz, but just because people aren't always vocal doesn't mean they don't care about someone getting shot in the back.

We have become desensitized to men being killed on our streets, we see it in the news and think, "Oh, another one, how wrong".
Then we go about our lives, we see the gorilla as more of a victim, after all, he didn't ask to be there... come to think of it neither did the black man who got shot.
The gorilla was innocent, so was the black man.
One did pose a threat, even if he didn't know it, the other didn't pose a threat and he knew that he didn't, so did the one who shot him.

To be honest there are times where personally I need to take a break from either reading the news or getting into discussions because it is either too depressing, it puts me in a foul mood, I see people saying too much ignorant shit, etc. There were things I would read that would end up making me cry. And I stopped talking about Politics with people on here and in general, I would get way too upset to where it wasn't healthy.

Of course this isn't everyone who doesn't talk about certain happenings and there are people who are desensitized or people that unfortunately just don't give a shit. It sucks, but I just don't think that not everyone that isn't talking about it, isn't angry or upset about it. Some times it is just a real heavy burden seeing how fucked up our World can be.

In my eyes...all living things on the planet have a spirit and a soul....everything....

I don't believe for a second that humans are the center of the universe and the only ones with soul and spirit and therefore more important than the things they destroy. In fact...I see them as a major destructive force on this planet.....

Humans have been killing other humans since the beginning...in great numbers...and rather than individuals who are murdered every day.... I am more concerned about the justice system that is NOT color blind....because I can help change that....

I am not jaded at all when it comes to humans killing other humans...but I don't let it in because I would never get out of bed if I thought about it too much and even with the bad shit... I still DO believe in humanity...because for every shithead..there are alot of other people making a positive contribution to the planet and all of the species and life that we co-exist with....and they are the part of humanity I would rather spend my energy and time letting in.....and being a part of.....

...and once again....I want to hear the mother own her shit. STOP talking about how "God" saved your kid...God didn't do shit. If God was involved...why didn't he stop him from going in the pen...or why didn't he wake up your irresponsible ass and tell you to watch your fucking kid....

I don't think God created this beautiful creature to have him be exterminated and locked up and gawked at and then gunned down because some bitch thinks it is OK to not pay attention to her child. I'd lock her up until she figured out how to take responsibility for her actions instead of making excuses and then using God as some miracle tool...there was NO MIRACLE you stupid fucking BITCH!!@ Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

You don't understand.... and you don't get me at all....and that is fine. I don't expect everyone.... or even most people... to "get me"....and I even like it that way....

IF I was in charge of watching a child..and I failed...I would say I FUCKED UP...I failed. It is on me...

...and don't put words in my mouth. I am talking about one specific mother who FAILED to watch her child and a horrible thing happened because of her actions...I never said a word about "MOTHERS ALL OVER THE PLANET"......
