Show me the money!

I plan to spend my $$ on a cruise.
I understand their motto right now is: "Buy a one week cruise, get three weeks free" \:/

I won't be checking my bank account until Saturday and hope that it is there. I think that it was directly deposited last time instead of mailed to me.

Oh, I know that.

There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.

One of my friends on a long-ago game show message board used that acronym as his user name.

Do remember this when offered a luncheon to discuss health plans, or a timeshare.

Mine showed up in my bank this morning. I don't need the money, but of course I will take it. I would much of rather it went to those truly in need rather than sending it to all taxpayers (and non-taxpayers and more) that make up to 75K. I don't have an answer as to how that is accomplished. But having it go to those on unemployment would be a start.

It's impossible. People would have to provide proof of their income or lack thereof. It would become a process. They wouldn't get their money until after the pandemic was over. I'm on the dole and the hoops you have to jump through to get your benefits are often comical and sometimes dehumanizing. This administration can't even hold a press conference without it turning into a bad Tik Tok video, imagine how their screening process would go.

The US government has no problem pumping money into already overstuffed pockets. People who don't need the $600 are just going to spend it, isn't that the point?

@ I don't need the money

There is nothing keeping you from handing it over to your local soup kitchen, to someone you know who needs it, or to any charity of your choice.

As of last Saturday I had not received it nor did any close relatives that I know of.

Guvmint munny (actually citizens' munny) showed up in the checking account today........ (!)

Money whats that?! I never had enough of it to flash at any time a fan of dollar bills isn't the same as 50's or 100's. I sincerely doubt fanning out pennies is impressive!

Starting from your banking accounts.

I'll bite. What's it mean?

It's from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. In the earlier days of the internet (by which I mean the second half of the nineties) you read it (and associated hippy philosophies) on internet forums much more often.

Found a link that says it's older still.

I went to the bank today and found that my $600 stimulus check had been deposited on Monday, January 4th.

Is the money taxable? If it is, people will have to include it in their next tax returns and pay 20% (or whatever the going rate is over there) back to the IRS.

It is not taxable unless the new incoming Administration changes it to taxable. In addition, the last I heard, even if a person is behind in paying your income tax in past years, you will still get the stimulus check if you have provided a bank account number, or mailing address. If you have not provided that information, when you file your taxes the next year you will get credit for the stimulus money.
