One of the things that excited me the most about moving into a house was that I'd finally have a garden I could relax in after work or have my breakfast in in the morning. I wanted it to look very "California."

Here's mine...

That's only the upper half of our large L-shaped garden - I don't have a photo of the rest.

My dad has a very, erm, relaxed view of garden maintenance.

This is our's,

our Koi pond,
our avocado tree which full with avo's,
our cattle at the ranch,

Jasun, you have a very nice garden, and patio, I really like it.

Why do you want it to look like California? you live in California

What I mean is that I don't want something that uses plants that aren't here naturally so they need a lot of water or can't handle the sunlight. I wanted to use indigenous plants like cactus and palms, creeping ground covers, bushy grasses and evergreens that would normally be here.

I see no point in having a garden with tulips and daffodils and violets in California. they take to much water and don't thrive.

If you look at Alister's garden, it's perfect for his climate... beautiful... but that garden in Los Angeles would require SO much water and wouldn't do well in our heat and dryness. My collection of potted succulents and cactus makes a lot more sense in my climate and besides... I didn't move here to make it look like anywhere else.

i want this plant in front of my house:

i think you don't need to water.

Oh, fer fuck's sake, guys... It was a joke.

That's the lovely Butchart Gardens in Victoria... I highly recommend a visit sometime. I hear they sell a lovely sense of humor in the gift shop.

Our garden is a big old vegetable plot. We have choisum, bakchoi, chinese long stem lettuce, scallions, chives, beans and Chinese wolfberry, though we only grow it for the leaves not the berries.

Last year we must of picked about twenty or more kilos of beans throughout the growing season. I love beans.

The Partner has done a nice job cleaning up the front of the house. Most of the Roses are ones that Grandma planted years ago and were looking sad while I was 'taking care' of them.
