Shrek The Third-$122 Million Opening Weekend......

"Shrek the Third" took in $122 million in its first weekend, breaking the franchise's own record for best debut ever for an animated film, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The latest adventure of the ogre shot past 2004's "Shrek 2," the previous record-holder for animated openings with $108 million.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount, "Shrek the Third" was the third-biggest debut ever, coming in behind the $151.1 million haul of this month's "Spider-Man 3" and the $135.6 million gross of last summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

Executives at DreamWorks Animation and Paramount had expected "Shrek the Third" to open more in range with the debut of "Shrek 2." Strong business from audiences across the board lifted "Shrek the Third" well above projections.

Adding in $900,000 the movie grossed during previews Thursday night, "Shrek the Third" has taken in $122.9 million.

Were we watching the same movie, nathan? Not even the children were laughing the way they were laughing during the Surfs Up trailer. I laughed harder at Emo Spiderman than anything in Shrek.

^^^^LOL at emo-Spidey! I saw it today and everyone in the theater (including myself) enjoyed every minute of it.

I admit the story didn't have a lot of original plot twists or anything (the climax at the end where they're running towards the castle to save the goodies from the baddies?? so part two LOL) but I love those characters so much and I think that's why the movie did well....

I definitely agree with you xyboyms that it's the characters that made me stay in the theater. Too bad they couldn't do much with the story and jokes.

I loved the SNL women doing the Princess voices!

Yeah, see I don't watch SNL regularly but I know who Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph and etc are but I so didn't recognize their voices at all. I barely recognized Julie Andrews as the queen. And Justin Timberlake...ugh, nevermind, I'll leave him alone.

LOL! Actually I thought JT did a good job with the voice. He'll forever sound like a pre-pubescent 12 year old girl so I thought his voice matched up quiet well LOL!

I'm glad Maya got to sing a little during Charming's stupid little play.

(What was with him entering inside that huge clam with bubbles on a white horse??? GAY GAY GAY!)

it was cute...most people have issuses with the "too real" format....fiona pregnant, donkey having kids, the gay cat, justin being insipid...but all in all, decent entertainment. but not nearly as good as 1 and 2

i want my money back... it was so very very disappointing... there wasn't too much of a plot and just wasn't that funny... hate the whole speech-giving Arthur too... the movie just doesn't seem to compare to the first one.... the only redeeming factor was pinoiacho and his conversation with prince charming

Its looking bad for me , anything with justin timberlake is awful at best , but then having babies .

I didn't mind the movie. I liked it more than the first one but less than the second one.

It had some really awesome moments. Like when Charming was asking the gingerbread man and pinochio about Shrek.....and then when Snowwhite starts singing and send the animals to attack the guards....

I laughed. Would rather have spend my money on this then Spiderman 3
