what is the best way to shrink this tissue back to normal?

ive had these for awhile, sometimes worse than others. So far it's only a cosmetic issue, nothing has ever hurt, I just want a cute butthole again.

I take daily fiber supplements, try to drink a ton of water, and even use prep h that advertises to shrink them. Is there anything else you guys do?

I've had that issue too and pretty much just been using preparation H and it will help if you use it awhile

Believe it or not, hemorrhoids are one of the most common complaints that send patients to their primary care doctors and to gastrointestinal specialists.

Hemorrhoids, like varicose veins, are something that some people have a predisposition to and it seems to have an element of heredity. We tend to focus on the external hemorrhoids that we can see but there's also internal hemorrhoids that can only be viewed via internal examination by a physician.

Start with the assumption that you can do things to calm flare-ups and shrink them down but the only way to "fix" them will require seeing a doctor.

The things that you can do to calm flare-ups, shrink the swelling and address the symptoms:
  • Increase fiber in your diet and avoid straining on the toilet.
  • Soaking in a tub of warm-to-hot water will help relieve the swelling and help lessen of the symptoms. Some people also find that adding epsom salts to the bath water also helps.
  • Over-the-counter creams and suppositories. These can be purchased at any pharmacy and supermarkets. These usually have two key ingredients- a decongestant (yes, like the one you take for nasal congestion) such as phenylephrine or a corticosteroid like hydrocortisone (which helps with inflammation). Some of the creams will have both ingredients. Try different brands until you find the one that works best for you.

If these home treatments don't work or if the flare-ups continue, make an appointment with your doctor.

This works well but just one soak a day won't do, and it can be annoying to stop and take a bath several times a day. A doctor once recommended a sitz bath, which is a shallow bowl-like thing that fits over your toilet so you can soak just your butt in warm water.

This seems great but my question is this: if sitting (in general) is bad for hemorrhoids, and sitting too long on the toilet is even worse, how can a sitz bath help? You're literally suspending your ass in the same way that supposedly makes the hemorrhoids worse. Does the fact that you are soaking in water negate this conundrum?

It's not just the sitting on a toilet that aggravates hemorrhoids. It's the straining, the increased abdominal pressure from bearing down, and the irritation of poop bumping up against the hemorrhoids which pushes them downward . One of the reason that we recommend fibre is that a) it softens the stool and b) it reduces the strain in emptying the rectum.

Sitz baths are great for when you've had hemorrhoidal surgery or you're in the hospital. I'm not a fan of sitz baths, especially the contraptions that sit on the toilet seat. The sitz baths that we used to have 30-40 years ago in hospitals, were sturdy and often were made of metal. The newer ones are a cheap piece of plastic, not very sturdy and you're very likely to end up with most of the water on the bathroom floor. I'm also not a fan of sitting in a small pool of poop water.

I do know a couple of people who invested in a bidet attachment for their toilet. It's not cheap but a good one does warm the water and sprays a nice jet of clean water. They are very practical for people with hemorrhoids to use immediately after a bowel movement (hey, you're already sitting there!).

You don't necessarily have to do a full bath. What I usually recommend is to run hot water into the tub until there's enough water to reach about to the level of your hip bone. You only need to fill the tub if you want to use the opportunity for a nice hot bath (although for hemorrhoid soaks, the water might be a little too hot for a full body soak).

I did find a couple of videos that do a good illustration of what is happening and what the toilet-top sitz baths are impractical:

I completely understand. I thought I had external ones. But when I saw a g.i. doc he diagnosed as a internal. He thought surgery was unnecessary since it wasn't a issue.
Even though docs didnt notice & diagnosis what I believe was external hemorrhoid, I'm pretty sure i have perianal hemotoma. I think I would need surgery and really want it to get rid of but worry about any risk.

I always saw commercials for https://www.usahemorrhoidcenters.com/ they say it's minimally invasive procedure. I thought to check them out to see if they can help
I've tried prep H, suppositories, & sitz bath but nothing helped.

I hope it goes away for you!
