Sid Barrett Dead at 60

As on of the biggest Metal and Rock fans here on this site. I'll say someting about Pink Floyd that can be said of very few bands or musicians and that is.........

Their own unique sound infuenced millions and was never and has never been duplicated. Its like trying to paint like Divinci or other masters... it's pointless to try.

You always know that its Pink Floyd if you hear them on the radio even if you've never heard the song. RIP Sid

"Piper At the Gates Of Dawn" was one of the records that got me through high school. I think I' ll go out to my workshop, put it on and burn one in Syd's memory.

"Piper" is a *brilliant* album !

Certainly not for everyone, but unforgettable in it's own way.

Poor Sid did WAY too much acid and goodness knows what else,
and last I heard was still under the care of his aging Mother and
friends, unable to leave his house on his own.

How very sad.

Drugs created his art, and drugs destroyed his soul.

Shine on, indeed.

As a side note,

I have a friend who works in the Cd/DVD section of our local
Barnes & Nobles, and the day Sid's death was announced, they
sold the one copy of "Piper" that had been in the bins litterally
since the store opened, by 10 am.

By 5 pm that afternoon, he had no less than 25 phone calls and
requests asking if they had copies in stock. ;)

I'm sure that album will sell more copies in the next month than
it has in decades...

A little piece of Floyd trivia, FWIW:

Pink Floyd took their name from blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

Rest In Peace, Syd...

Currently listening to: Astronomy Domine (the live version from "Ummagumma")

"...Lime and limpid green
a second scene,
A fight between the blue
you once knew.
Floating down the sound resounds
Around the icy waters underground
Jupiter and Saturn Oberon Miranda
And Titania Neptune Titan
Stars can frighten...

Blinding signs flap flicker flicker flicker
Blam pow pow
Stairway scare Dan Dare who's there...

Lime and limpid green
The sound surrounds the icy waters under
Lime and limpid green
The surrounds the icy waters
Underground..."

Over on youtube there is a stunning version of Astronomy Domine filmed at the UFO in London circa 66'. Syd is in complete control, of himself and the band.Playing slide with a Zippo, Hipgnosis light show whirling behind the band.Outta sight man.Proto Floyd.

Thanks for the info! Too cool! ..|
Now back to your regularly scheduled topic... :D

It's funny I went to a Christian High School in Southern California and was a Choir Geek. Each year the Assoication of Christian Schools International would Have a Concert at some big church. Where I don't reall remeber it was 25 years ago. Back to subject while sitting in our place like good little old God Christian boys and Girls Some guy began sing Pink Floyd's The Wall and soon the whole choir was singing it.
