What would be your recommendation for a silent mini pc for surfing, watching videos (no gaming) and using programs like Mathematica (I guess this is the most demanding requirement for the cpu)?
And what monitor would you use. I have an 27" i-mac from 2010 (using windows on it) here. But now it's time for something new. And I want a mini pc which is absolutely silent. No fan noise anymore, you know.

I'd thought about getting myself a Minix Neo z83 because they can be had fairly cheap off eBay
But in my case the use would be different than you (its actually totally overkill for my needs .lol.)...
I'd be removing the malware (known as Windows 10) that comes on it and replacing with Linux & firewall software, then using it as a firewall for my network.

I bought this: https://www.newegg.com/neosmay-ac8-jasper-lake/p/2SW-006Y-00003
It comes with Win11. It runs great for what I do and seems faster than my old i5. I liked it enough that I bought another to replace my so called server. Set that up and used Acronis to image the drive to a 1TB Western Digital. If something goes bad I have the system the way I want it ready to go.

And then I start hearing "my PC is old too" and "never mind, it's fine". So I bought another.

It's cool. The three PCs were almost 10 years old, time for new.

I've bought from Newegg several times over the years and never a problem.
