Hey
I used to play The Sims 3 and have just recently gotten back into it. My issue is that I can't think of any interesting stories to play, so I get bored easily. I always play the same way. There's a beautiful happy family, the dad cheats, and everyone becomes sad. The end. How can I spice up, or down, my game? I have all expansions by the way.

Hey there! I'm an occasional Simmer as well. I usually play the same way every time too - I usually almost always end up with a gay couple. Can get pretty boring after a while - hopefully real life doesn't turn out to be like that!

Anyway, have you tried creating sims with negative traits (e.g., inappropriate, clumsy, hates the outdoors)? It may make for some interesting challenges. I usually always make sims with exclusively positive traits, but that can make the game boring.

Maybe set yourself up to catch every fish in the game? Harvest every plant? Get to level 10 in each career (obviously not with the same sim - I don't think their life is that long on normal)?

I tried making a family of gardeners once - 4 young adults with the purpose of improving their gardening skills to level 10 and living off the land selling their plants. That didn't go very far. I do well when I only have to manage 1-2 sims out of a whole family (not including pets).

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I always cheat or use mods to get what I want, so I'll try to actually build skills in those areas next time! Thanks! I don't think I've ever gardened or fished before in the game. I'm extremely relationship-oriented which kinda mirrors my real life haha.

why dont you go back to the original games? i used to love The Sims Makin' Magic, primarily for the Genie. I miss that guy!!

Trust me, I've been thinking about it. I just don't like the lack of customization though. I do love TS1. Making magic and Unleashed were my faves.

I myself am trying to get back into playing TS3.

Interestingly, I never play with gay sims. It's always male and female, in that seeing how the genetics work out always interested me (minus hacks).

The Sims 3 got real boring especially with it's 20 stuff packs just for a few things. EA is all about making huge amounts of money off small Expansion Packs. I miss The Sims 2 because it was more fun but my only beef are that my Sims still look skinny but with a beer belly.

My friend had an idea of playing as a homeless Sim he lives in the park but customize the park so that it's fit for living (A outdoor shower, a place to go to the restroom) all parks have public restrooms which is great for him to live. Have your sim dig into people's trash for anything, as for money just make sure that your sim has a small amount of money to survive. Have him make a few friends then try to mooch money off from them to survive, it was difficult to have a child cause he has to go to school every day so if you end up turning the aging it will be easier that way if your original sim who is an adult dies then you'll continue the tree of generations.

I recently (yesterday) found a site which has renewed my interest in Simming. The site is IPlaySims and if you go under The Sims 3 > Downloads > All Downloads, you will come across many, many mods that you can "install" that have an effect on your game.

I loved playing Late Night but really hated the Paparazzi and vampires - the Paparazzi because they stood outside my celeb's houses almost all hours of the night (and it wasn't hard to avoid getting that celebrity status), and the vampires because, well, they're vampires. After reinstalling Windows 8 (I am a developer and run a tech business so I need to stay with the very latest) I even decided not to install Late Night because I didn't want to deal with all the negatives. Well thanks to some searching, I found mods on the above-mentioned site to get rid of the aspects of the game I wished weren't there in the first place, and it's been a more enjoyable game as a result.

There are a ton more mods there, and as long as you read the instructions and get the right kinds for your game, they can add all sorts of new twists.

EDIT: Just realized in post #3 that you already have experience with mods so this should be pretty easy for you! Anyone else interested in how to get these working, let me know!
