I Definatley Agree Eva Cassidy has a beautiful voice, i love her version of Billie Holidays "God Bless the Child"!
 
Eva actually does really well in England she was very popular in DC. I think my favorite songs she covered are: 'People Get Ready', 'Time Is a Healer' and 'Fields of Gold'.

Patti La Belle, Tina Turner and Jennifer Holiday have those voices to move mountains.
 
Sade - Her vocal range is limited and her music isn’t soulful in the traditional (Aretha, Patti, Chaka, etc) sense, but her voice touches me because of how pure and simple it is. She means what she’s singing and it comes from her heart and soul. People who don’t know her music beyond Smooth Operator and The Sweetest Taboo don’t know how deep she can get. She touches on topics like prostitution (Jezebel), unemployment (Feel No Pain) and world hunger/suffering (Pearls) without being preachy or pretentious. She can make me smile and bring tears to my eyes with so few words.

Mariah Carey - Yes, her “diva/dahling” antics can be annoying and her voice isn’t as strong as it used to be, but that woman is so talented vocally and lyrically and she also sings from her heart. She knows what it likes to be an outsider (Looking In, Outside) and encourages others to follow their dreams (Make It Happen). Loved her since I was a kid (I sang Hero at my 4th grade talent show).

Mary J. Blige - Now I know she sings out of tune sometimes (bless her), but her voice is the very definition of “real” and “raw” to me. She’s been to hell and back and is so open and honest about her struggles. The first CD of hers I bought was My Life when I was 16 and I kept that on repeat all through my junior year. I couldn’t relate to being a drug-addicted singer with depression and an abusive boyfriend, but the emotions she expressed still hit me like a ton of bricks.

Frankie Beverly - My dad is a huge fan of Maze so I grew up hearing Frankie’s voice and it takes me back to my childhood. Like Bill Withers (another singer I love), his voice is rough and “down home”, but there’s a smoothness to it as well. It just feels good. Their music is funky and very positive. Love it.i

Samantha James - Now she’s someone who should be a household name and if you’re ever in need of a voice to calm you down and lift your spirits, listen to her. Her voice isn’t “diva-ish”, but she’s soulful as all get-out and so soothing. She deals with issues like loss (she lost both of her parents at a young age) and heartbreak, but always manages to find a light through the darkness.
