I have this one white spot on the middle of my shaft a bit smaller than a grain of rice. (it's not those pearly papule things). It feels kind of like a hard pimple that can't be popped, and it's been there for a while. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Anyway, I was wondering if I should go to a Urologist or a Dermatologist to get it checked out. Technically it's on the skin, but I feel it might be weird whipping out my penis to the dermatologist.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

This sounds like you may have a sebaceous cyst. It could be just a little oil trapped in a pore which early on can often be squeezed out. You might try a sterilized needle (alcohol or even fire) and insert sideways a few times (no pain or blood) to see if you can work out the hardened oil. Then clean the vacated area with 3% hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or an antibiotic ointment.

It should be nothing serious, almost like a whitehead pimple. If it still bothers you it may serve you well to pay a visit to your doctor.

Also after shaving, some hairs can become ingrown causing such a bump, too. I have released the coil of new hair using a sterile needle, too.

After circumcision in my early 20's, I have two glands that once provided lubrication under the foreskin that now in a dry environment, form white "seeds" which I periodically work out using an ointment and head of a straight pin.

A PPP wouldn't be on the shaft but on the rim of the glans, so yeah .. it's none of them. It still could be a single fordyce's spot. have you looked at the pics? or if possible .. can you provide a pic? maybe one can recognize something .. but if in doubt - go to the doc. It wouldn't be weird at all, it's daily business for him.

here's a pic. after doing some research i'm thinking it's a sebaceous cyst. look familiar to anyone?

i'm not a fan of sticking a needle or putting fire on it though. :grrr:

it does not look like a fordyce's spot, nor does it look like a wart .. at least from the pics that I have seen. maybe someone with a more medical background can tell you something more specific.

Either way, doesn't look like a disease. I'd say don't worry about it....

A sebaceous cyst is a bit like having a BB under your skin. You can't move the cyst by itself- it moves with the skin around it.

This looks like a cyst. The only thing that is strange is that sebaceous cysts form in oil glands. There are oil glands on the shaft of the penis. But in your case, it looks like it's on the frenulum on your circumcision scar. There's not a lot of oil glands there so it's an unusual (and quite tender) spot for a sebaceous cyst.

The other possibility is a keloid.

A dermatologist is the logical choice to determine what it is. They may send you to a general surgeon so that you can have it removed without making a scar. Or you may want to leave it alone for the time being if you're not concerned about what possible sex partners might think.

I once had a big, white spot on my nipple. I knew someone whose father had died of breast cancer. Worried the hell out of me. My doc prescribed antibiotics and warm compresses. Nothing happened. Went to a dermatologist. He looked at it and popped it. It was a white-head, a pimple. No wonder our health care costs are so high.

I'm thinking it's Molloscum, in which case it isn't serious and may go away on its own.
