  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Skin care, shaving and all things related.

Personally, I hate shaving. That's why I have a beard. Actually I dislike hair, and wish I didn't have any hair at all.

I shave my balls, cock, pube, chest ect... I shave everything.I look good.

I hate hair.Men should not be hairy. It sucks that men have hair. This is the reason men shaves. To be hot.Everybody knows that shaved men are the hottest.

Razors and shaving cream are gay men best friends.

Love this thread, I'm in need of advices, for products and methods for shaving and skin care particularly. Keep posting !

There are a few good websites dedicated to classic wetshaving. However I think the best tips I learnt when I first began stepping away from the mach-5-million-turbo-hyper-hydrofusion-combobulators was a youtube poster called mantic59.

I forgot to mention that I use Feather blades.

Crazy man.

I have some feathers in my blade box, but I rarely use them. Maybe as a once in a few month experience. But for me they are just too perfect at cutting. I literally would have no dermis left. The Personna red pack blades I find to be smoothest and most reliable on my skin, though Derby stainless aren't too bad either.

Never really had a good time with Dorco/gillette/merkur/other blades.

Sharks were ok to be honest.

Is this sarcastic ? If not, are you really 18yo or above ?

As per other tips re: Oakpope.

Brushes; for cheaper but good quality badger brushes, try Frank Shave off eBay. Chinese made and good quality for the price. I own the lower end one myself (got it for around $9) and after its done shedding it makes a great brush for softer creams. I have an omega boar brush that is great for firmer soaps (circa $18) and a fairly old boar/horse brush I inherited from my father. More expensive is not always needed and I find the Omega does a fantastic job for the price but a little less soft on the face than a badger.

Razors; older gillettes off eBay are great, can't go wrong. For new razors, Merkur are a great buy. I love my Merkur, but always read up on reviews before you buy, mine is rather aggressive but a good razor none the less. The top ones such as the futur adjustable are fantastic, but not my cup to tea (I believe it is the same as sinful simon posted).

The new Parker razors are ok, but quality control issues can be iffy.

Stay away from open comb and slant razors until you get proficient at DE shaving lest you want to lose copious amounts of blood.

Blades; Get a sampler pack. Once you get used to the technique of DE shaving, try them all. Everyone has their own preference for blades, and every blade feels slightly different.

Soaps and Creams; Once again, try them all but more expensive is not always better. I frankly enjoy shaving with Palmolive and Faulding's creams (around $2 per tube). They aren't a very nice scent, but they lather great and provide a good softening for the blade. Compared to most, I actually don't enjoy Proraso THAT much. It is great in the summer because it cools so much, though I find it irritates my sensitive skin a bit and doesn't quite have the same cushion of others.

Technique; Definitely watch Mantic59's videos, especially on passes, face mapping and general wet shaving 101. It still took me a few weeks to get a good shave, but it is worth the effort.

Coming from growing up with mach-4's, hydro-5, and similar I find that the DE gives me a longer lasting shave albeit with the cost of time and care needed. Also I find that a good DE razor that is a touch more aggressive easily finds all those hairs that I can't seem to get without over-shaving using a cartridge. The simple cartridges such as the sensor are groovy though, good shave for a lower cost.

I still keep cartridge razors though on hand in case I need a last minute quick shave.

Thank you Chris, but the products you list are American and I won't find them in Paris :( Surely there are equivalents but I would need to know what they contain to be able to check.

The Merkur razor is German, for french based products you should look at your local pharmacist or store. eBay and the internet are fantastic though. Being so close to England, you have the choice of the awesome levels of high quality gear that comes from there as well.

The blades I enjoy are Turkish and Israeli, however most shaving supply people carry them all. I get mine off an eBay seller that I trust in Australia.

As for French products, the general consensus is to stay away from L'Occtaine shave creams but their other products are fairly decent. I am not sure of the rules on posting internet links, but if you look for a website called rasage classique they are an online shop based in France for wetshaving supplies. They stock everything from American to British products and more.

You hate shaving.

And you hate hair.

Wow. Rock and a hard place, that!

I am not sure what magazine on earth would publish such a story. All I know is, I do not buy it, and I do not need to buy it.

I like Sharks quite a bit and used them for a couple of years (before that I used Merkurs because I didn't know any better). The last time I ran out I decided to test out other brands and ended up preferring Feathers. They are awfully sharp and I need to be extra careful, but I find that I have fewer accidents with them than with other brands.

My first experience with feather blades was about their cutting power. 2 weeks of growth which is too much to shave really. I should have trimmed first.

Instead I prepped and lathered, ONE PASS with a feather and it was already a decent shave.

I can't agree with this Marco, do you agree with me? No oh yes I think you could if you understood men can be hairy like the woman under her arms and tit can have some hair too. Yes No? It it is wrong for men not to be hairy than it is right for hairy to be man.

Some mens shave all their hairs and they are not any more sexier then if they didn't shaves.
