Ok...Let me set the scene for you. I took a management position with my company in May of this year. I have LOTS of retail management experiance but previous to May zero product knowledge of what we sell. (camping, hiking, mountaineering crap, etc.) Well since I've been at the store I'm currently at we have hit our monthly sales goals every month. This particular locations is new so we are just starting to pick up steam in our area. I have worked very hard, even coming in two hours before we open to train and learn about our product. I have sold over $50,000 of merchendise in 3 months. We were running the store with 1 Store manager and 2 Assistian Store managers. I'm an assistiant. The other assistiant was just promoted to Store manager at another location. Leaving just our store manager and myself. So now I work 6 days a week and have 1 open to close shift every week to cover the other managers day off. My work load has DOUBLED. So with all that said lets get to the slap in the face. August is review month in the company. Its the review were we get our raise's. I've been waiting since Aug 1st to find out what my raise would be. I'm new...and I haven't learned all the products YET! So I wasn't expected more than .50 cents to $1 more per hour. (I'm salary as well) So any extra hours I put in I work for free..not too mention there is no overtime pay. So I got a little surprise when I opened up my check today. THose fuckers gave me a .14 cent raise!!!! FUCKING FOURTEEN CENTS!!!! :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:
I was at a lose for words. I don't know how you all feel. BUt I know that I would have been happier getting no raise for any reason. But to give me .14 cents is a fuckin slap in the face. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
So am I being totally unreasonable or do I have a right to feel this way??

That amounts to $5.60 cents per week, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. I could consider that a bit of a smack indeed.

What a crappy trick to pull. I would find another job on the qt and then just call the store one day and tell them you are insulted, stick the $.14 up their asses, and "I quit as of right now." They do not deserve a moment's notice, let alone a two-week notice. HOWEVER--if it is tough to find another job, just don't work so hard. Give them their little bit of money's worth.

Was there no performance review before the raise? They just dole out raises with backup as to why you're getting what you get? That alone sounds ridiculous. If I were in your shoes I would ask for a meeting with my supervisor immediately and ask if they were not satisfied with my performance.

14 cents/hr (is that before or after taxes?) seems like a very odd number...did you get an explanation of how that was determined?

If I'm reading your post correctly, you've been with this company for 3 months...correct? If that's the case, I guess I'd just accept what they gave you. My personal experience is that I've not gotten raises until after a year of starting new employment...and there were some years afterwards with no raise or cost of living increases at all.

It does seem like a sucky raise though. Can't say that I blame you for being a bit ticked.

As a former HR Manager at a big company, I can honestly tell you, run fast, run far my friend. It will not get any better from now on (just my opinion). You may excel all you want but you will find that you may not get anymore raises even if you perform miracles, they will probably tell you you got a raise already. Get your resume out and start looking, you will be better off. Best of luck to you.

Ok! Let me fill some holes and answer some of your guys questions.

Snickers - There was an eval done but they haven't gone over it with me yet. It was supposed to have been done weeks ago. In fact I wasn't even told I got the raise, I found it when I opened up my check today.

Jaysizzles - I have been with the company since Oct of last year. I have only been in this promotion for 3 months. Oh..and yeah, Its before taxes.

Maklaar - I do plan on running, I do plan on taking out my resume and looking. The way I see it. This is a representation of how they feel about me, its a poor example of what kind of faith they have in me and its a disgrace to my preformance thus far. I will not do anything extra from this day forward and I won't put in any effort above or beyond what ever it is you can buy for .14 fuckin cents.

I really thought some of you might say I should be happy I even got that in this shit ass economy in MIchigan, but it seems that my feelings are well justified.
Thanks...I will keep everyone updated. (*8*)

I would ask what is standard practice. Let them know of your disappointment and remind them of your above and beyond efforts for the company. If you don't get reasonable answers, then start job hunting. Don't quit first. That makes it twice as hard to get a new job.

You're in Ypsi? Dude, fucking apply to the Ann Arbor District Library! I work there and they need people. As a processor/shelver you get paid 8.50 and hour! 8.50! Apply!!!

Nate, you should discuss the amount with your regional manager. Do not let him bullshit you about it. Be calm and rational. Make sure you use I-statements to as not to put him on the defensive--and I don't mean starting off with "I'm seriously pissed the fuck off about what you people consider a raise!" Tempting, I know, but not productive.

If your company is like the one I worked for, the managers' salaries were "boxed" so that you got pay raises only when your yearly store sales jumped through flaming hoops. For instance, in my last store, we would have had to jump $235,000 in a year (above the $765,000 we did) for me to get a raise.

Don't jump to conclusions or act based on emotions, though. Give yourself a couple days to calm down and discuss it with someone in a position to remedy the situation.

Good luck, buddy!

If your working at a job that "GAVE" you a 14 cent raise,,,YOUR IN THE WRONG BUSINESSS!!! IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT!! ...WHA!! WHA!!

That's good advice ..."THINK" about it!! And if you spend more than 2 minutes thinking about it.....YOUR LOSING MONEY!!!

Dude I work like 1000 feet from you. If you drew a line from the library through the blake transit center and then through the parking structure there off of fifth I work right there, on main street. I just might do that. Is it full-time work? It would have to be for me to make enough to support my rent payment.
Thanks for the tip.
You all are right, I probably should speak with the district manager and find out the reasoning and theory behind the raise. Maybe there is something that I did to make them give me such a small increase. I just think their cheap as fuck.
Hey Spring long time no speakie..lol

Hiya Nate! (*8*)

Hey, don't start coming down on yourself. Corporations are notoriously "cheap as fuck," as you so eloquently stated! lol You know you do a good job, so don't look at it that way. Could it be that this raise is so modest because you just got one to become AM?

You know what...I was thinking about that tonight. What if I got shit because I just got a "big" promotion..lol There is some more of that "eloquent" talk. Well I guess I can make assumptions all night but its time for me to grow up and welcome myself to the big people's world and find out face to face why I got fucked. I just have to remember to be patient and not tell them to fuck themselves in the place where that stupid fucking pointless raise came from...
!oops!

Umm... .14 cents isn't fourteen cents -- it's fourteen hundredths of a cent -- not to be pedantic of course...

Nate:

First of all, you have every right to be upset!

I like the approach listed above, remain calm and have someone in POWER; NOT your local boy; but some one above the store on how 14cents is given as your wage increase??? That's a strange amount/number, dontcha think?

DO NOT LOSE YOUR TEMPER, with these assholes; but have something else before you give your notice of departure....else, they will give you a bad employee thingy from them to your new employers!!

Have your ducks lined up and on paper of what you've given to the company without any complaint....till now! Tell them of your loyalty/service to the company.........REMEMBER to speak in terms of the COMPANY and NOT "YOU"!!! K? Bottom-line to the company is what they want; NOT the one employee who is dis-loyal!!

I know it sounds sickening; but you have to show them how you make a difference to the company at your store!!!

Good luck and be strong and DO NOT lose your temper.....ever!!!

Hang in there!!!!(*8*) (*8*)

I thinkt hey'll eventually be looking for full-timers and Downtown Branch on Main is swamped. They NEED people. Plus, they work really well around people's schedules...at least at my branch in Pittsfield they do.

So just an update for ya'll that might care about this.

I finally man'd up and decided to talk to the district manager about my raise. He informed that they give raise's in the amount of 3%, 4% or if your perfect 5% (never given). So I will never receive more than a 4% raise. Which is means my next raise will be somewhere between .33 cents to .42 cents. I was also informed that due to my short time on the job as a manager I was given a prorated amount, which I can deal with. I have to understand that they can't pay me on what I "might" do, they can only pay on what I've done. I'm still totally disappointed and upset that it's going to take years to earn a decient check with this company. At least I know what came into play with my raise.

Thanks all for listening..

Unless that is some sort of interim thing to be reviewed in a quarter or so--- you have a legitimate beef! I'm with you--- nothing would have been preferable!
