Sleep Is A Waste Of Time

I wish there was a pill to take (legal) that would allow a person to stay awake for a month at a time. I could get so much more done. I only sleep about 4hrs a night but imagine what I could do w/ those 4hrs that I'm wasting away.

"I never sleep, cuz sleep is the cousin of death."

thats not true

Sleep sure seems like a waste of time. But it must be accomplishing something important, since all mammals require it.

We're just too stupid yet to have figured out just why sleep is so necessary and useful.

http://www.insomniacs.co.uk/WhyDoWeSleep.html

* Sleep is needed for the body to recuperate.
* Sleep is needed for growth and development
* Sleep affects metabolism
* Sleep affects our ability to perform
* Sleep influences our ability to learn and our memory
* Sleep affects mood

With due respect, Cum_Person, those are observations, not answers. Sharks never sleep, but they recuperate, grow, develop, sustain metabolism, perform, learn, remember, and have their moods.

So why is sleep so necessary for mammals? There are a lot of theories, but we still don't understand.

If I could sleep 16 hours a day I would. What's so great about being awake? And no I'm not depressed.

No. I don't like this Idea

And I don't like the fact that Aericans think that they need to be busy all the damn time. Sometimes you need to REST AND RELAX. Life doesn't get any more meaningful when your Busy 100% of the time.

Ever hear of Lucid Dreaming, or Tibetan Dream Yoga?

Basically the closest existing thing to good/believable virtual-reality. And it doesn't require any computer skills/programming knowledge to control your dreams. Just decent visualization and imaginative skills.

I live a very rewarding second-life in my dreams. Sleeping, for me, isn't a waste of time. I get to explore things I could never otherwise explore, by creating my own reality within the dream state.

That would only be true if sleep were truly a waste of time. You know, like eating is a waste of time.

Eating is pleasurable so that's different. Plus, you can multi-task eating. I can wrap up phone calls, read a case, write a memo, etc. all while chomping down on a yummy cinnamon roll. As such, eating just doesn't seem like such a waste. On the other hand, I have yet to find a way to multi-task sleeping.
