Sleep Is A Waste Of Time

Eating is pleasurable so that's different. Plus, you can multi-task eating. I can wrap up phone calls, read a case, write a memo, etc. all while chomping down on a yummy cinnamon roll. As such, eating just doesn't seem like such a waste. On the other hand, I have yet to find a way to multi-task sleeping.

Hello, I just mentioned lucid dreaming and dream exploration. Everyone dreams and can improve their dream recall (train their mind) so they recall many more dreams each night. I actually find dreaming much more pleasurable than eating, because I'm able to explore anything. I actually find it to be quite a profound/spiritual practice. Eating is just a sensory pleasure.

"I love sleep. My life has a tendency to fall apart when I'm awake."
Hemingway

sleep does sound like a waste of time, until you stay up for days on end, and realize there's not enough to do to spend the extra time...

and of course, when hallucinations set in.

And sleep is not pleasurable? And how do you know you're not multitasking during sleep? Appreciating that we have no certainty of what sleep is doing, maybe it's accomplishing several important tasks simultaneously. And you probably already realize that it is neither natural nor healthy to try to "multitask" while eating. And what about all that time wasted by humans preparing food for consumption? Eating is such a waste of time!

i get about 10 hours of sleep a day! lol...my job permits me to do so! i dont go in to work until 8pm, and i get out at 5am, so i usually sleep till about 3pm..lol

That's exactly what I like about sleeping. I don't feel obligated to be engaged in multiple productive activities at once.

Unfortunately, the life of a grad student (especially at a Research I university) isn't exactly conducive to sleep.

I couldn't agree less. Sleep is a luxurious pleasure.

I hate having to go to sleep, I just wanna be up, even if I'm not doing anything in particular. But then again once I've fallen asleep I don't wanna get up again. I think I just like to keep my current state of consciousness, changing it seems to be too much hassle for me:rolleyes:

I've thought about this as well. Sometimes I pounder two options, if I could change reality that is:

A) Only needing to sleep like 2/3 hours max.

OR

B) The day having 36 hours. Would still sleep 8/9 hours but would still have around 28 hours to enjoy. Would be fantastic!

Then I snap out of my psychotic episode and realize that I absolutely LOVE sleeping, even though it takes a 3rd of my day.

I wish there was a pill to take (legal) that would allow a person to stay awake for a month at a time. I could get so much more done. I only sleep about 4hrs a night but imagine what I could do w/ those 4hrs that I'm wasting away.

from memory, you said you can't sleep. That means you can work all day and night.

Fluffee talked about this in one of his latest videos.

But yea, I'd love to live off 2 hours of sleep!!! There's so much that could be done, but then we have to waste our time sleeping! Sometimes i stay up all night too, and sometimes I stay up really late, even if I have to get up early.

Do you mean Fluffee from Youtube? I love that guy, now he I wouldn't mind having a few zzzzz with. ;)

Nah. I spent a lot of years barely sleeping. It sucks.

Yeah, extreme lack of sleep is horrible. I once spent almost 2 months sleeping like 1 or 2 hours tops per night. When I finally decided to do something about it was when I walking down the street and I nearly passed out. My body was on the verge of breaking down. Don't want to repeat the dose ever again...

Sharks are cold blooded and dont need to waste energy heating themselves up.

Mammalian bodies need to do a lot more I guess.

Our brains need sleep. That seems to be the organ most affected by a lack of sleep.

And sleep feels wonderful.

I agree. We're warm blooded beings, therefore, our bodies require more rest because it takes a great overall toll on the body spending the day functioning the way we do and keeping our bodies warm. Not to mention since we have a much more developed brain, it works in a much complex way, therefore, it wears away much quicker wich leads to a higher need of rest and sleep. My guess anyway...

Sleep sure seems like a waste of time. But it must be accomplishing something important, since all mammals require it.

We're just too stupid yet to have figured out just why sleep is so necessary and useful.

Oh, it was figured out many decades ago. It allows your body and mind a chance to regenerate and it also allows you to dream.

You can do without sleep for quite some time, but you can't do without dreaming for very long. If you don't dream, you die.

18 unit course load and working out 6 days a week followed by work 3 days a week. I love sleep and need a lot of it, haha.

How do I know that I'm not multitasking while I'm asleep? Well, my to do list isn't getting done. You're right about food prepration taking to much time, thank goodness we have fast food places and microwavable dinners. I already stated that I'm fully capable of eating and working at the same time. But, I am a woman and we are masters of multitasking.

That's exactly what I like about sleeping. I don't feel obligated to be engaged in multiple productive activities at once.

Good luck w/ grad school! What field are you in?

Ahhh...the life of a lawyer. I can go forever and thank goodness for that! "Sleep when you're dead"--my favorite quote.

I'm surprised that so many people love to sleep. Just wasn't expecting that.

If everyone didn't need sleep, it wouldn't seem like that much of a time-saver. Think of it this way, the gov't is supposed to set a minimum wage that you can live off of if you work x amount of hours. If you didn't need to sleep, x amount of hours would become larger and minimum wage would become lower. In short, everyone would expect more of your and your quality of life would be more or less the same. Of course this is aside from the fact that our development as a race would move along at a much faster rate and in that sense your quality of life would (probably) be greater since you would have access to more advanced technology. Assuming that we don't speed ourselves along into the apocalypse of course.

Yeah but think about it, you wouldn't have to roll over and go to sleep after sex, you can keep on going.........now that would be man's greatest achievement (!)
