These past couple weeks, I have been sleeping badly. I twist and turn and usually wake up because I am blocking the blood in my arms. Almost every night I wake up with my arms asleep. I'm thinking that it can't be good for my arms.

Do you know which position you've been falling asleep in? When I lay on my stomach and fall asleep with my arms under my pillow I sometimes wake up with my arms asleep. I don't think it's anything to worry about.. unless you have circulation problems or something

I think I may be damaging the tissue in my arms. I just can't be comfortable laying on my back. I'm not obese, but a little extra weight does hinder the breathing. I think this issue may just stem directly from my extra weight. What are your thoughts?

You need a new mattress. A good mattress.

I have a good mattress. I have always preferred a harder mattress. Maybe it's time to change it up?

Maybe there's an underlying problem with your circulatory system?

It could be your sleep position, but you said that both arms are asleep.

Have you checked your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc.??

It sounds like you're a side sleeper. Try adding a foam pad on top of your mattress to soften it up. My arms do that too when I sleep on hard surface.

i had that problem too...when i sleep on my side with my body weight on that arm...it seriously just woke me up cause it scares me

That used to happen to me as well - quite often in fact - when I was in my early twenties. I can't offer any insights as to why, but in my case it just stopped happening... Or maybe I'm just not waking up anymore. There's a scary (and unhelpful) thought.
