I prefer to say that I am a smoke-aholic that hasn't had a ciggie since Nov. of 06.
So far, so good although it was the hardest thing I've ever done.
My partner smokes and one co-worker smokes and that hasn't bothered me yet.
I've set a goal for my self, though..........I'll start smoking again at age 75 because I really did enjoy it but had reached a point that I just didn't feel good anymore.
Come on 75 !!!
Oh, and for those out there who have mean things to say about smokers........just shut up will ya ??.........unless you've smoked you have NO idea how hard it is to quit. Nicotine is 10 times harder to break yourself from than heroin. It takes the average smoker, willing to quit, six attempts before being successful. We KNOW the health risks. We know it smells. We know......believe me..........we know.

i quit for 7 months put on 40 lbs. i'd rather be thin than a nonsmoker.

Yes, I'm one of the guilty ones. I've quit before, but like many I fell bad into old habits. I know the health risks. I do enjoy smoking. I like one the best right after a meal. And, don't know about anyone else, but have to have one when sitting on the commode! !oops!

I do consider myself a considerate smoker. I never blow it in peoples face, and don't smoke in the car if I'm carrying non-smokers with me.

100% non smoker. Never done so much as try anything. No intention of it either.

Not to sound mean or anything, but I hate smoking.

I don't mind people who smoke (my grandmom just so happens to smoke and I love her dearly) but I don't like the action or the smoke itself. Bugs the hell out of me. That's why I tend to stay away from smokers while they're puffing away.

Also the smell. Good lord, I hate the smell.

But hey, even if I know a person smokes as long as they're not blowing it in my face I don't really care that much, it's their choice, I just don't like them doing it around me!

You bring up an excellent point!

I had a substantial cocaine addiction years ago. I was able to stop cold turkey, yet I am unable to go a week without a cigarette.

Oh, but cigarettes are legal...

100% non smoker. Never done so much as try anything. No intention of it either.

Oh how I envy you. I really don't have any regrets in life. I do, however, regret the day (October 30, 1999) I bought a pack of smokes. I wish I could go back and slap the old me!

Went cold turkey back in '83 I think it was and haven't looked back.

Oh, man....I've battled the addiction for years. Started at 17 and still puffing away here in my mid to upper 40s. Quit once, years ago, for nearly 3 years, then met a guy I had the hots for who convinced me it was okay to smoke only when you drink. I never have been much of a drinker, but in order to be able to smoke (under this new rule) I would take every opportunity to knock a few out.

Years later, my buddy still abides by the rule...I don't. I figured the tar and nicotine alone was bad enough, why compound the problem with liver disease, too. I hope to get my mind set to quit again....for good. I'm tired of being perceived as a second class citizen.

I dont smoke nor have i ever. It dosent worry me if anyone smoke , i mean hey its your choice. I just find smoking imo redundant but thats just me lol

I smoke about a pack a day and have ahd the "you know those things will kill you" talk SO many times. This is how it usually goes.

Them: You know those will kill you right? And that they have rat poison in them?
Me: Yes, actually I do know that. *takes a drag*
Them: And you still smoke them?
Me: Absolutely. *exhales*
Them: Can I ask why? And what happens when you start growing hair on your tongue?
Me: *dripping with sarcasm* Well, DUH because it makes me look cool, and the hair on the tongue could make a good gimmick for when I'm in a sideshow. So all in all its a win win for me.
Them: oh.....ok?

And that was an actuall conversation with another kid in my major last week while walking to class at 8am.

I've been smoking since Christmas time. The managers at work keep lecturing me about becoming a smoker. One of my coworkers keep lecturing me too. Oh well. I smoke maybe a pack in a week or two. And if I'm in a situation for a few days in which I can't smoke, it doesn't really bother me. On my days off, I don't usually smoke. I won't smoke in my apartment. I could smoke on my patio but I have no furniture out there and I don't want to just go out there just to smoke.

And where I live, there is a statewide ban on smoking inside bars and restaurants. Which didn't really make a difference where I live, since the city I live in already had that ban to begin with.

Non smoker here...I have buddies who smoke and all but I would never hook up or date a dude that smoked... you can just smell it all over the place.. even if they think it doesnt smell, breath or clothes.. it does... whats worse is guys who smoke and gargle and then you have that mixture.. sorta gross lol no offense

Never smoked, never intend to. I get enough tar in my lungs by hanging around with so many people who do.

Yes, I agree with not smoking in most public places and even restaurants, anywhere kids go, especially. But in bars? That's just nuts.

Here in Ontario, smoking has been banned in bars for sometime now and while it effected things for a couple of weeks, things are back to normal, business is just as good as it ever was before just the bars don't stink of smoke anymore and you don't have to take a shower and put a load of washing on when you go home.

Living in California, it is a very rare thing to see....and I love that. I do hate that many of the tobacco company ads that target the gay community.

Target the gay community? Did I miss something? I've personally never been influenced by cigarette ads. In fact, aren't cigarette ads illegal?

I don't smoke but I and most of my non-smoking friends agree that smoking in bars shouldn't be banned.
As the poster above said smoking has been banned in Ontario in all public places(including bars), and I for one am all for it. Whe I go out, I want to be able to have fun, and not worry about if I;m inhaling enough second hand smoke to get cancer.

Now, that being said, I have tried cigarettes before, and think that they taste disgusting, so it's something that I won't pick up. Which is good, because it's one habit I can't afford.
