No smoking. No air fresheners. Let me breathe fresh air.

Of course everyone has the right to curb smoking in their homes if that's what they want.

But Smoke Nazis are a growing force. I've witnessed them in action berating smokers outside restaurants and bars.
I always tell the story of my middle aged sister standing outside a prestigious restaurant on a cold night having an after dinner cigarette. Some asshole guy leaving the restaurant spat at her feet. Had I been there that's one Smoke Nazi whose facial imprint would be in the concrete.

We now have a 20 foot from the entrance law for smoking. That frequently means standing in a more desolate area of a parking lot etc. I wonder who will be legally liable if some woman (or man) is mugged, raped or assaulted because they are forced to smoke in less lit and less occupied areas?.

In my town, the gay bars now have outside patios. The bars are empty but the patios are mobbed.

In no way do I support drunk driving. The laws are getting tighter on that too. Soon if you sniff a beer you'll be legally drunk by the new standards. Personally, I don't drink and drive, however I object to the current movement to have breathalizers installed in all new cars. Guess who gets to pay for that? The overwhelming majority of responsible people who don't drnk and drive will be penalized also.

We really are becoming a "Nanny State".

I will do most anything to make guests welcome in my house, but smoking I can't stand..
Only have a couple smoking friends, who are very considerate so it's really not a problem....

I don't smoke in the house, I will stand outside or at the backdoor if its raining. I do however smoke in the car, which is crap as my car does smell, but while sat in traffic it gives me something to do.

And yes you can get fined for smoking while driving here in the UK if the police think it is impairing your driving, because apparently a smoker has no control over the vehicle while lighting a cigarette, as both hands are off the wheel! I don't know which odd person they watched to come up with this law, but I use one hand to light up in the car, and dont even look!

But yes, I will never smoke in someone elses house, I will always go outside, and before the smoking ban came in, I would always ask my friends if it was ok to smoke if we were at the pub etc.

to be fair.. nobody is "forced" to smoke. you choose to smoke if you want, and that may mean having to smoke in a few odd places should you choose to do so.

I can't get any near a cigarrete withouth having trouble breathing.

That said, I had a teacher who actually was pleased for smoking when I was near u.u

bastard.

anyway, my true problem with smoking is that it is dangerous for others, when they invent a cancer stick that kill only who uses it I will support it :ok:

It's really unpleasant to sit in a restaurant when a load of people are smoking next to you.

I mean, would you be grossed out if someone farted in a restaurant at the table next to you? Well, let's put it this way.
1.) Breathing your smoke is bad for my health.
2.) I think cigarette smoke is an equally unpleasant smell.
3.) The smell of a cigarette lingers much longer.
4.) A cigarette takes a few minutes to smoke, leaving a lot of smoke around.

Also, do you have any idea how many pricks have put their cigarettes out on me, simply because they hold it down by their sides so I don't see it in their hands, or because they walk straight into me, or even happen to be smoking behind me, and just happen to drop it on my arm.

It's a lot of people.

The weed makes you think it doesnt stink things up! I don't normally smoke cigarettes or weed in my house. I go outside, sit on the deck or the front porch (if'it's raining) and have a smoke. I never smoke in my car, I have to drive clients around and it really stinks up the car.

I don"t expect you to smell my butt....
I don't want to smell yours...

most of them anyway!

LOL

My objections to inside smokers is the health hazard to second-hand smoke inhalation by non smokers.

A beloved member of my family who never, ever used tobacco in any form, died of emphesema from close proximity to a heavy smoker for 30+ years.

The concept that people just choose to smoke is flawed.
Initially they might have chosen to smoke, but it is in fact a medically recognized addiction. Many doctors believe it is as hard to overcome as a heroin addiction.

Some obesity can be considered an addiction also. Will "open season" start on fat people soon?

Some of the "no smoking in bars" proponents here actually used the arguement that it is harmful to children. My question is why are your children in bars anyway?.

We all know the health risks, but this no smoking thing came on like a steam roller. There should be smoking and no smoking bars. Customers then would have a choice. Smokers feelings and rights were never considered. Non smokers have there rights too, but many would pitch a fit if they thought they were being discriminated against by being refused entry to a smoking bar.

Just like Christianity tells us that homosexuality is just an evil addiction, too. That's rich.

No, in all seriousness, I do agree that smoking is an addiction. My mother could not get off it and after being off and on and off and on over the years, she finally got off the stuff through the use of a patch. I'm very proud of her.

Personally, I wouldn't want anyone smoking in my house. Cigars or cigarettes, although I do recognize that cigars do smell good. If I was at someone else's home and wanted to smoke, I would most definitely go outside, though.

As far as bars, sadly I think it should be banned. Nobody is saying you can't smoke, but you need to respect everyone else and their health if they don't want to be exposed to it. If it wasn't a health risk and just simply smelt bad, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it. But exposing everyone else who does not smoke to this is not fair, either.

That's exactly why I advocate smoking and no smoking bars. Non smokers have a choice, smokers are denied a choice.
I recall seeing news footage of an Irish barmaid when the no smoking law went into effect in Ireland. In her brogue she said "Surely these deluded people don't think they're stepping into a health club when they enter a Pub"

I mean it's one of the most foul odors you ever want to smell.
Oh come on now, sure it stinks, but there's lots of things that are much, much worse. For example, shit.

Weed doesn't smoke anything up when you smoke it?

Are you sure you're smoking weed?
The smoke may stink, (although I love the smell) but it dissipates very quickly. It doesn't hang around and sink into your clothes the way tobacco smoke does.

And oh yes, it's definately weed I'm smoking. ;)

I have never smoked or chewed.
I did go to the tobaconist's shop in Philadelphia today,
because the proprietor is a dear friend and we chatted
while some great cigars were smoked.

But I do not enjoy the smoking even by others,
for I am quite allergic. As you can see I make
exceptions and am very tolerant.
Shep+

I think people who smoke are gross. sorry but I just don't feel like getting cancer from your second hand smoke.

I completley agree with you.

I used to smoke in my apartment, then I quit, and later moved.

When I cleaned some of the walls

That really nailed the idea of completely be out of it. I also threw away the couch (it was falling apart also)

I used to keep a dirty ashtray somewhere in the cupboards as a reminder, but a friend saw it and cleaned it for me.

I never smoked in my car though...

I actually still enjoy second hand smoke, but bars can get too smoky, especially smaller places.
When I go to PR, I realize it since people still smoke inside, and I feel it the day after.

I smoked from high school through college, then quit cold turkey before I graduated. I haven't touched tobacco since. I don't like smelling any of it, not at all.
