I think we're assuming that "smoking" refers to tobacco - a product that has no positive value whatsoever - even when used in moderation. "It makes me relax" is a cop-out. Without being judgmental, I'll always have a problem with the carbon monoxide found in cigarette smoke. Not only that, I had one hell of a time quitting.

A cop-out for what? If it's done in moderation and the user isn't addicted than why would they say they find it relaxing if they don't?
Tobacco has been smoked by many cultures for centuries for the enjoyment of it, and chain smokers have ruined it for everyone.

Why people start smoking is beyond me. My dad died from lung cancer and never smoked. They had to cut him from the middle of his chest to the middle of his back to remove his lung. I watched him struggle to breath, and he was in intense pain. It's is not a pretty way to die. So date a smoker...NO!

Just like alcoholics, and drunken driving have ruin enjoying a drink...

Ambiguity will get me nowhere. What I meant by a cop-out was an excuse. I can think of any one of a number of other ways to relax. Tobacco is not one of them. Unfortunately, I haven't met very many people who aren't hopelessly addicted. I did know someone who died from emphysema. Witnessing her dry heaves wasn't all that pleasant.

Personally, I really don't give a shit whether someone smokes or not. After all, it's a free country. Just keep me out of it. The best line I can think of is from Mark Twain. "I can give it (smoking) up any time I want...I've done it a thousand times.
