Apologies if this scene from 'Spartacus' has already been mentioned here but for those who might not know, it was cut out of the original print. The Roman patrician Crassus, played by Laurence Olivier, is being given a wash-down in the tub by his body-servant Antoninus, played by Tony Curtis. Crassus asks him if he likes snails or oysters and tells him that his own taste includes both. Certain religious groups objected strongly to this veiled confession of bisexuality, so the scene had to be cut out. Years later, when the movie was restored, the scene was put back in again. However, the audio track for the tub scene "take" had been lost, and Olivier had meanwhile died, so Anthony Hopkins dubbed the lines for Crassus. The audio for the next part of the scene, where Crassus tells Antoninus that he must serve Rome, grovel at her feet and love her, had survived. What the religious groups failed to realize was that Crassus was in fact talking about himself, not Rome at all. However, Olivier knew exactly what the script implied and showed it in his face. No wonder Antoninus made a rapid escape! ...
