My boyfriend has informed me I snore. I did not think much about it, almost did not believe him. One night he recorded me and played it back. OMG.

It would appear if I lay on my left side I do not snore.
If I'm on my back I snore.
If I'm on my right side I drool. !oops!

If I had that next to me in bed I would kick the bugger out.

So, I'm wondering ......

Do you snore and if so do you use anything to reduce or curb it? :help:

^And I thought _I_ was a pessimist! Geeez, Naughty Arousal, you are really bumming me out. You are NOT your snoring!

But back to the OP . . .

Yeah, it's a health issue, and not just an annoyance. I got help with a nightguard (cast and fitted by dentist) that realigns my jaw so that the air passage stays open in the correct way. Mine's inherited, so other members of my family have had to go to more drastic measures.

First, see if you can do a free sleep apnea test to find out if you're in that range or getting close to it. No, you do NOT want to just guess. Sleep deprivation does lead to psychosis, which is why it's (supposedly) not used as torture.

If everything is clear and safe and healthy if you sleep on one side, there are ways to "teach" yourself to do that. Short of a whack upside the head from your partner.

Worst of all, any kind of alcohol consumption tends to make it worse for most people. I just HATE that part.

Good luck and don't wait. I did and I wish I hadn't.

Naughty, I was with a guy that had horrible snoring and if he said he wanted to be with me, I probably would be now.

If you have other things working for you, it will probably out weight that. Someday hopefully you can get surgery to correct it!

Simple , keep your neck straight
be glad you dont asthmatic cough also

^ I'm sorry to hear that mate. I guess I have it OK compared to some.

My bf is very good about it. I told him to shove me and wake me if I make too much noise. Only once have I woken from this.

Surgery is not required for me. But I did just find a guy in my city who makes something called 'snorers friend'. I might check it out.

I had terrible sleep apnoea and was a loud and obnoxious snorer, until I had a sleep study done. Now I use a CPAP mask and it's made all the difference.

I don't mean to go on about this . . . oh, hell, yes I will.

Messing up your own AND your partner's REM sleep is not just annoying. It really will cause serious problems in your physical and mental health.

I forgot to mention that, before I spent the money on the night guard (and it might be covered by insurance if you live in civilized country), I got a do-it-yourself one that I tried for a couple of nights. Kind of like the heat/imprint/wear mouth guards that athletes wear--only designed specifically for this purpose. It was enough of a difference for me to go ahead and spend the money on the real thing.

btw, over many years, I wore down bones in my jaw to the extent that the dentist could show it to me on my xrays. Yikes! Who knew. And that's what caused my mouth to misalign and mess up the air passage and . . . well, it just escalates.

Ok, I am now officially going to stop going on about this.

I'm not sure if I snore or not. I'll have to spend a night in bed with one of you so you can tell me if I do or not.

But my dog who sleeps on the end of my bed, he snores really loudly....

Naughty, got me there. I could ask my sister, though, if you're REALLY curious.

And another set of images I'll be a lifetime getting out of my head.

I am SOOOO not going to sleep tonight.

Negotiable. Size and breed, please?

The dog, that is. But, while you're at it . . .

Awww cute little Torin is a snorer. How adorable. :D

I was curious about a CPAP mask, but what bothers me is the fact that I'm not partnered with anyone. So what happens when it's time to have sex. What, I fuck the guy, then hook up to a mask and cuddle? If it were a serious relationship, I could see this working, but anything else? So not right. lol

Have a sleep study to find out if it's sleep apnea. It's best to deal with reality. You'll know for sure and can start to take corrective measures.

Li'l Bit has the sleep apnea. It sucks balls. :(

When I slept over at my bf's place, I didn't use my CPAP, and the snoring really bothered him. Sometimes he'd go downstairs and sleep on the couch. At the time I felt guilty, but now I think the bastard deserved it.

Heightening your head position during sleeping usually helps. At least for a large portion of people, including me.

Hey crowboy!!!

Snorer - and a loud one! - here, too! !oops!

Last year I ordered one of those mouth-guardy thingies from this site ...

http://www.stopthatsnoring.com.au/index.php?j=1

I was pretty sceptical at first and it took a little getting used to, but I persevered with it and now it works a treat ... or so my other half tells me, anyway! ..|

You can have one professionally made on a doctor's recommendation (the technical term for them is a Mandibular Advancement Device ... quite a mouthful innit! [pun intended! ;) ] ), but it'll cost you a trillion bucks!

The do-it-yourself one available from the site above (based in Adelaide, too! ..| ) only costs $69.95 and for me, it was well worth it!

PS .... the guy who operates the business looks pretty cute, too.. you could go visit him personally!!

ADDENDUM: Oops, shoulda read all the other posts ... I see you've already heard about him. Oh well, consider this a recommendation from moi! (*8*)

Ah, my favourite bane on my life.

I not only snore horribly, but I drool, talk in my sleep and - worst of all - grind my teeth. It's absolutely terrible, and has literally been the linchpin to ruin my last long-term relationship. Apparently I sound like nails dragging on a blackboard.

Apparently mouth guards are the way to go, but they're very expensive for a student. I've got a basic rugby mouth guard from my sporting days, and that apparently helps, but it's such a turn-off to be cuddling and kissing with your partner, and then have to roll over and pop in this big lump of plastic. I can't talk when it's in, and it stretches my mouth to a horrible gurn. On top of that, it turns out that when I'm asleep I'll quite often spit it out and carry on being a noisy disaster. #-o

I think there are better mouth guards out there, smaller ones that are made specifically for this, but they cost mega-bucks. Still, I'll probably shell out for one eventually.

Grr, now I'm in rant mode! :grrr:

I started snoring as an adult. My current other half noticed it. Sometimes I might fall asleep in the recliner while we're watching TV and snore, then he'd yell at me.
Sometimes I'll snore in bed but we've been sleeping in separate rooms for a decade because I'm sometimes on the computer til midnight and he likes to get up and start his day in the middle of the night. I've woken up from my own snoring a few times.

Yes, I snore loudly! I have awaken myself with the sound of my own snoring!

I don't do anything about it because I sleep alone!
