....while my co-worker was at lunch today. The first was from the hospital in Boston. They want to see me tomorrow (the first time I have had an appointment set up the next day), and it is in the Neurosurgery Department with a different Doctor than I have seen before. I know this is about my Thallium Spec test, and I am assuming that since it is not with my Neurologist they saw something that we need to address. I have not said anything to my family at this time for two reasons. The first is that my oldest sister is going in the hospital on the 1st for surgery. If I say anything to her she will postpone her procedure. You see, she is only 5'5" tall. When she started to have children the 1st was 9lbs, the 2nd was 10lbs and the last one was just a few ounces shy of 11lbs. Having large children apparently plays havoc with the bladder so hers needs to be lifted and put in a sling (YUCK!!!) to eliminate the pain she has been in for the past couple of years.

The second call was from a collection agency for the hospital. :grrr: Once again she recommended that I take a loan against my 401K (which will not even come close to paying off the hospital). I lost it with her. I told her that she should be careful WHAT she SUGGESTS to people. I told her that I knew that as a result of HIPA she had no idea what these bills were for, but for someone diagnosed with lung cancer with associated Brain Mets, her suggestion was extremely offensive and insensitive and that I will be speaking with the accounts manager at the hospital as well as her supervisor. I told her that she is to conduct all contact by mail and not to call me again. I got the mailing address and have already written the notice to that effect and will drop it in the mail tomorrow.

Now that I have vented I feel better about the Collection, but I am still a little freaked about the appointment tomorrow. I will post an update on this thread tomorrow.

Steve

what a bunch of bastards. i know they have a job to do but still... that struck me as completely insensitive. i'm sorry that they're stressing you out peg.

as for your appointment... all i can say is let's not worry until there is something to worry for.

i'm thinking and praying for you mister! you hang in there! (*8*)

So sorry you had/have to go through that shit on top of your treatments Steve. Have I said how much I despise the health care "industry". ](*,)

It's hell when you have to deal with collection calls and a full time
illness. It can get you down if you let it. It almost got me.

You are indeed a fighter don't let them get to you. I hope you get
some positive news on your visit. Best of wishes Steve.

Count me in with GL247. What a bunch of bastards!

Health care costs are the #1 reason (by far) for personal bankruptcies in America. We are the only developed country on Earth that does not find some way to provide modern medical care to everyone without burdening patients with the cost of the care, or the threatening them with the loss of life and home because of their illness. And this is not due to a lack of resources - we spend more per patient than any other country on Earth.

We get far less for our health care dollar in America than does the entire rest of the world. Our system is astonishingly inefficient, and astonishingly dysfunctional.

Best of luck, Pegasus. One step at a time.

Steve, my thoughts and prayers are with you, man. You inspire so many of us on this board. (*8*) You are part of our family here and I wish you the very best!

I do hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. I wish you the best, as always.

As for the collections dept. The robots contacting you are just doing their job. It's good you told them about sending the complaint upstream, but don't expect things to change. You just need to focus on your health and nothing else right now. Deal with the BS in your own time.

next time your on the phone with collections, remember the adults in the charlie brown cartoons....."waaaah wah wah wah waaaaah....." My mom got me a new cell phone for christmas because I had stopped answering my house phone

->6-8 solicitation or creditors calling, 2/3 of them for me, the rest for someone named Ebeneezer Urfa, who hasn't had this number for at least 3 years. I've tried calling them back, telling them there's no-one here by that name, but I think they think I'm lying. I have also had a creditor suggest I wasn't thinking hard enough when I told him I couldn't ask anyone I knew for money to pay a bill. Riiiiiight, I LOVE the idea of going into debt to pay off a debt. I should have told him, "Since you're the stranger here, and an asshole to boot, I'd rather owe YOU the money than someone I love." "Call me back when you see my name on the best-sellers list."

Anyway, good luck with the appointment tomorrow, I hope it's utterly innocuous.

Thanks for the update ... Sorry for the insensitive bill collectors, but try not to let that get to you. It's really easy to give in to worry and aggravation about such things.

Life is about so much more than money and accounts.

Keep looking for the beauty in the ordinary. I know you're an expert at that.

I'll be thinking about you during your appointment tomorrow. (*8*)

Insensitive sots!

Man, people will go to no ends to pest the crap outta ya...

You have NO reason to even worry 'bout those bills; I know, I can say that; but really Steve, as long as you pay "some" there is nothing anyone can do...

I have a relative who had a transplant, with NO insurance, in debt for mega $$$'s, so when they kept pestering him, he told them if they persisted in bothering him, he would just declare bankruptcy and they would get ZIP!

He's NOT had any calls!

You just let them worry, NOT you my friend, you have more to worry 'bout than money-matters.

Here's wishing you the BEST and think pleasant thoughts and know that we here at JUB have your back and will forever have you in our thoughts and prayers...

Love ya!(*8*)(*8*):kiss::kiss:

we'll all be thinking about you and wishing you the best--- sounds like you have a good attitude, and that helps a lot in the healing process.

...The second call was from a collection agency for the hospital. :grrr: ...

I would be calling the hospital administrators and asking why someone at the hospital had given out private information to a collection agency even BEFORE you had seen the doctor...who is to say you do not have health insurance...I would extremely offended at receiving such a phone call immediately after receiving a phone call from the specialist that they wanted to see me.

I hope that you give the hospital accounts department and administrators a serve and threaten them with legal action if they again release private information to a third party without your consent.

My thoughts and prayer go to you and your sister for a fast recovery

Good luck Steve in your meeting today.

Put the collection call on the back burner, they don't deserve you worrying about them.

Your health and mindset it uppermost in importance here.

Good Luck to you

(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)

Good luck on your appointment today. I would be freaked out.

Steve, I hope everything is ok. I'm waiting for an update as to what happened.

As for the bill collector calls, I ignore em, what can they do to me?
