If we're going to defy good manners and talk about the first one, why not the other two?
PrettyPete, it wasn't god who killed your friends. A plague just does what it does the same way an apple falls off a tree. We didn't learn fast enough how to protect each other though, and in some cases we in our society knew how, but couldn't be bothered.
If anything is responsible for you having too many memories and not enough old friends, it is a world of common human ignorance, political greed, lack of compassion... All human things in the ordinary world, and under no one's control but our own.
I'm too young to have seen my friends fall and fall and fall. But I'm old enough to have lost more than one mentor, people who taught me The Lesson when I was young and afraid. Be True to Yourself; Be Proud; Take Care of Each Other, Live your own Life.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to a generation which took heavy casualties to give that gift of wisdom...the wisdom still lives though, and I think it is a fine legacy.
