  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

So, it happened

I have jury duty scheduled the week of July 6th. I told them I couldn't make it for my scheduled date because of midterms and they're like, oh, okay, we'll schedule you the end of august. I told them I wasn't going to be living in LA then and they were like, Ok! Middle of summer, just to mess up any plans you might have.

Or you could don your Star trek uniform (the fancy one) and get every ones attention. But I believe that's been done.

A history teacher from my high school showed up for jury duty in overalls, looking like a grade-A hick. He was excused almost immediately.

That is really sad -- for a history teacher in particular. What a fine example of civic duty he provided for his students.

^The social studies department at my high school was really weak. This particular teacher was definitely not the brightest crayon in the box.

I lived in Michigan all my life and was registered to vote. Never got called for jury duty. I moved to DC four years ago and switched my registration last year. Bam....got called for jury duty last month!

The DC system is pretty nice...you check in on the day you are assigned and report to the jury lounge. There is a coffee bar, a business center, and wireless internet. They also showed first-run movies on tv screens in the lounge.

Every few hours the judges would put out a call for juries and they would call a group (there must have been a couple hundred of us waiting). The last call of the day they called my number but it wasn't my name with it. Turned out they had the wrong jury list!!! So they went out, came back and I didn't get called....done my duty for two years!

Take a laptop, some work, a book, an IPOD (you can't use a cell phone in the lounge or quiet areas). Met lots of nice folks while I was there so it wasn't a bad day (plus my firm pays for my jury duty time...)

He was dismissed without serving.

...hope he doesn't mind me giving it away. :)
